In the confrontation with police on the streets of a Boston suburb, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were armed with handguns, at least one rifle and several explosive devices, authorities say.

But neither brother appears to have been legally entitled to own or carry firearms where they lived, a fact that may add to the national debate over current gun laws. Last week, the U.S. Senate rejected a bill to expand background checks on gun purchases, legislation that opponents argued would do nothing to stop criminals from buying guns illegally.

For the past 11 years, in the Afgan war, 2,166 people have been killed. Now in only 8 years in Chicago, 4,265 people have been killed, and 3,371 of them were from being shot.

Is that really something we want to model our state laws after?

Now of those 3,371 only 37 were killed from a rifle which is barely 1%. 98% were killed with a handgun so creating gun control legislation that specifically targets assualt riffles has stictically proven to stop 1% of the problem if you're lucky.

I'd also like to point out that no one the guns you'd in the Chicago shootings were registered to the people who used them, thus even further proving that simple restriction gun will stop criminals from using them...

The best I read was:

Is it a willful ignorance or a mental condition that prevents gun control idiots from not understanding the simple, undeniable fact that people who commit crimes DO NOT OBEY THE LAW? You can regulate and restrict until the cows come home and YOU WILL NOT AFFECT THE CRIMINALS USE OF WEAPONS OF EVERY SORT! The only people who you will affect are those very individuals who are responsible and would use that weapon for responsible actions. The only sensible conclusion is that the would be controllers are mentally deficient, or that the gradual disarming of American citizens is their actual goal.

I normally don't link "articles", but this is a singularly excellent piece (short as well)... I think. I'm not sure if he's trying to help the anti-gun movement by pointing out the faults in their gameplan so they can fix them for a re-attack, or to educate the masses of misinformed/misled/confused liberal anti-gun regular Joe's.

Feel free to share with all your liberal or anti-gun buddies... after they read it, try to get a feel for if they learned anything and let me know.

I want to post this to facebook but I am pretty sure it would be offensive to some people.

rleete 04-26-2013 12:47 PM

All the more reason to post it.

People that get "offended" by minor things should just die.

NastyNate 04-26-2013 12:55 PM

If they get offended that should tell you something.

As a liberal and someone who probably leans closer to anit-gun, that article does absolutely nothing for me. But I already disapproved of the way other liberals are treating gun control before I read it.

H.R.1565 - 113th Congress (2013-2014) - To protect Second Amendment rights, ensure that all individuals who should be prohibited from buying a firearm are listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, and provide a responsible and

This is just introduced... it's the House version of the Background Checks bill although I can find no text as of yet. You'll note that although the bill was introduced by a Republican (from NEW YORK), there are only 2 additional Republican co-sponsors (out of 109) of the bill, both from PA.

This bill is not expected to make it out of committee, but it should be pretty fucking obvious that gun control is almost 100% partisan in this country. Please check over the entire list of names or search them via state on the left-side of the page and write your Reps. You can also register at POPVOX and send them a letter through the site:
https://www.popvox.com/bills/us/113/hr1565

Every member of Congress also has their own website... you should have their sites listed in your favorites on your browser and let them know how you want them to vote OFTEN. Although members of the Senate can get elected by being popular in a few key hi-population centers, those in the House know they stay in office by votes they earn at the street level.

If you need inspiration, here's what I just sent to my Rep. Scott Rigell... and although I know he's very pro-gun, he also needs to know I have his back with my vote.

I oppose H.R. 1565: Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2013 because... there are enough gun laws currently on the books that are not enforced at numerous levels throughout govt to warrant additional laws. I support better/additional/funding/training for mental health professionals for reporting into NICS. I support all manner of increased penalties and jail time for all crimes committed with a firearm. I support prosecuting felons and other prohibited persons who attempt to illegally buy firearms, and for prosecuting FFL's who are found to be dealing illegally. These are things that would have an immediate effect on the numbers of firearms in the hands of the mentally ill and criminals.

I ABSOLUTELY OPPOSE any manner of background check legislation at the federal level.

I ABSOLUTELY OPPOSE an assault weapons ban or magazine capacity limits.

Just got the paperwork/stickers/certificate for my NRA lifetime membership!

Included was an application for a lifetime membership for only $300 (normally $1000). PM me if you are interested.
