From Jordan Peterson’s “12 Rules for Life…”
“Chris had a very bitter odour. He showered frequently, but the towels and the sheets picked up the smell. It was impossible to get them clean. It was the product of a psyche and a body that did not operate harmoniously. A social worker I knew, who also knew Chris, told me of her familiarity with that odour. Everyone at her workplace knew of it, although they only discussed it in hushed tones. They called it the smell of the unemployable.”

Some of the stuff that shows up makes me wonder how you folks deal with some of the stupidity at work, particularly from people fresh out of college with a degree that makes other assume they have some basic level of professional knowledge.
I finally blew a gasket a couple of days ago after attempting to deal with what is arguably the stupidest college graduate with a mechanical engineering degree that I have interacted in 40+ years.
I tried for about two weeks to educate this idiot on a couple of basic principles of pressure vessel design.
One being that if you insulate a vessel the temperature on the inside face and the outside face of the insulation is different. The primary reason for insulation in the first place is to insulate. Simple concept.
The second is that if you utilize supporting stays the resulting required thickness of the assembly can be decreased. Think a load bearing stud wall and you get the idea...........................

After review by the customer and after several long phone conversations with the third party approval agency the engineer was pulled from the project last week and was reassigned to cause problems for some other person.
The new authorized engineer agreed with my report after a couple of hours of review.
That is the good news.
The bad news is that tomorrow there will be a meeting by the customer to decide if they want to pull the project from the company I work for all together as a result of it being held up for 7 weeks by this idiot.
End result being that delay costs money and my hard headedness put me front and center with a target right between my eyes.

You should be commended and, if your company has competent management, he should be relieved of employment. I'm not surprised the customer questions the competency of the firm but that burden should land on the dolt who caused the problem. Having a second engineer validate your position on the issue should be enough but reality can be less than ideal.

Putting this in the GenWu thread, as the article itself is exactly the sort of fuel which stokes that particular fire.
U.S. women’s soccer players shouldn’t be paid as much as men. They should get more.
That's the headline. Here's the full article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...e60_story.html
And here's the punchline:
So, based upon the fact that the US women's soccer team defeated their opponent 2-0 last week, whereas the US men's soccer team lost to their opponent 1-0, the women's team deserves more financial compensation. Based upon this single dataset, they are clearly superior. And that's all that matters; not the sponsorship agreements, or the advertising revenue, or the fanbase.
I wholeheartedly agree. Because I stand to profit from this mindset.
It's a little known fact that I am a highly skilled maker of bias-ply tires. Actually, that's being a tad too humble. I am probably one of the greatest bias-ply tire manufacturers in the world today. I do it all in my kitchen, using a process I developed myself. And since I really am the best at making bias-ply tires, I think I deserve a bit more money than the head of an organization which makes only MEDIOCRE radial tires, like Pirelli or Dunlop.
It doesn't matter that most customers purchase radial tires rather than bias-ply. The fact is that I'm better at making bias-ply tires than Giovanni Battista Pirelli is at making radial tires.

If the field of sports is truly a meritocracy, there should be no argument about value or compensation. The men’s team played decently Sunday night, losing 1-0 to Mexico in the final of the regional Gold Cup tournament. By contrast, the women’s team, hours earlier, became champions of the known world for a record fourth time, dispatching a talented Netherlands squad 2-0 in a display of power and precision that took one’s breath away.

As a side note, we should see how well the US Women's team plays against the men's team from Mexico.
I bet that game would have greater viewership then the Women's Championship.

2 years ago, they lost bad to a men's under-15yo team in a scrimmage.

I thought the US Soccer team was there to represent our country, and as such were expected to be ambassadors of the USA, or at the VERY least not openly disparage the USA to the media. Are there no codes of ethics/conduct for the players who represent the US team? Unfuckingbelievable if you ask me.

I find their faces unattractive. I believe from what little I know of them that I would find everything else about them unattractive as well.
I was trying to decide why you would choose as a fantasy a third or fourth rate version, then I realized that you like girls with boyish haircuts and that trumps.

Though, to be honest, I don't find either Megan Rapinoe or Suzanne Bird to be unattractive in a more conventional sense. They're both fit, with an "athletic but not unfeminine" body structures. They're both quite financially secure, and appear not to have a fondness for heavy makeup, garish jewelry, or high-heeled shoes. In short, if you're ticking boxes off on a list of "attributes which make a desirable woman," they objectively both score highly.
Obviously I'm ignoring the "has no interest in men" thing.

I'm getting tired of sports getting entangled with politics. I watch a few things (NBA, OSU Football, and some racing) to get away from bad news, country bashing, and politics.
