Sad to see this happen. My job's Boston office was about 5 blocks away from the event. Suddenly that office became un-contactable. Was kinda scary, but turns out cell phone usage was revoked for that area.
Jokes aside, this event will probably just be used in someone's political agenda. :/

Cell phone towers were not shut down by any of the major telecom providers. They were simply over loaded by the 50,000+ people trying to make phone calls. All providers and the government have confirmed that is what happened. Text messages were getting out while people could not call.

Or you find my apathy for the suffering and death of a bunch of communist new-Englanders to be appalling?

This sucks so bad. It sucks that these horrific things are happening here, and it sucks worse that this type of event will surely be used to further some political agenda.
It also sucks that there were bomb sniffing dogs at the event, so someone had to have gotten at least a threat.

The failed 2010 NYC bomber only failed because of trying to fly under the radar. Apparently he used materials to build his bombs 1-step lower than the level of things getting reported to the feds. So basically, the fed will look into anyone buying X but not Y, and this guy knew it. Luckily when his bomb went off, because of it, it only caught on fire and didn't explode. But it just goes to show how useless these sorts of laws are.
As soon as I saw the smoke plume in the video I said "That's black powder, or smokeless. I bet that's a simple pipe bomb wrapped in nails or ball bearings and full of black powder, probably around 1lb. Great, now where am I going to buy powder?" The lady in the airport sitting next to me got up and moved.
Mark my words: There will be some Federal regulation that comes down the pipe related to the purchase of black powder or smokeless powder that us firearms guys use for reloading.

Now I guess they'll have to ban pressure cookers.

I'm excited to see that at least some of the major news organizations are spinning this story into a story of "heroism" and providing media coverage to the "heroes" of the event rather than trying to focus on "who" blowed folks up, or "why". It's refreshing for an event to be "faceless" for once.
