What is everyone's opinion about how the covid effected the outcome of the election? Do you think that Biden would have won if there was no Covid?
I personally believe that Trump would have won. This was a close election and I can't see how this would have helped any incumbent.

Maybe, if the boss cocky just stays in bed with the blankets over his head.
We have had two recent elections, one where there were bugger all infections, and the incumbent was returned with a reduced majority. Likewise, in that jurisdiction there were minimal restrictions but schools and workplaces closed.. In the other there was a restriction on entry into the State, quarantine for two weeks if you entered, There the incumbent was returned with an increased majority. These actual polls, and the opinion polls, seem to be saying that voters reward competence in dealing with the pandemic, even at great cost.
Seems like we have very low levels of community transmission, but every so often a cluster breaks out and has to be dealt with. Contact tracing, and the isolation of contacts, seems to be working well enough, for now. Analysis of sewage is also being used to localise potential outbreaks.

This is very likely unconstitutional, Trump would have been massacred if he tried it. Don't you remember him trying to close the borders to China? https://www.foxnews.com/politics/dem...ina-travel-ban he was called a racist xenophobe.
there was no win for Trump with Corona it was perfect for the dems to play.

Keep the opinions coming. I’m not really looking for insight on how the COVID was handled just what the effect was on the election. If it helps, think of it this way, what if Biden & Harris where the incumbent’s would it have hurt them or anyone for that matter.
Also there are probably ten lurkers for every person who posts here on the regular. So to the lurkers just make a simple post with a yes or no you don’t have to write a book.

Remember that one time that the Great Depression happened during the first term of Herbert Hoover's presidency, and unemployment in the US quadrupled in just a few months, and then during his re-election campaign, Hoover subsequently lost in an absolute landslide to Franklin Roosevelt, who ran on a platform of (and subsequently delivered) a large number of socialist policies, and also criminalized the use of gold for monetary purposes?
High Court ruled yesterday on a challenge, upheld the bans. Reasons will be interesting when they appear, but it seems that 'free' is not an absolute (here anyway) I'm guessing that the reasons will canvass the 'why' of the bans being put in place, whether that was a proportionate response to a crisis and whether it was achieving a public policy 'good' (ie addressing a public health issue). Your Supreme Court would be an entirely different kettle of fish, because USA.
If it were a Biden Harris presidency then there would have been maybe 20,000 deaths and the rest would have died of complications of the ordinary flu and their pre-existing conditions. IMO, of course.
Lots of good points. The general consensus seems to be the same, that it is less then ideal to have to run as an incumbent while the country is battling a disease like covid. I'm sure that everyone is aware that china has threatened the US and several other countries in the past few years. For not letting huawei sell their products in GB, EU or the US, the south china sea sand island construction, Canada arresting the cfo (meng) of huawei and the US tariffs. Are we overly focused on, or distracted by the election when there is something that is much more serious to be concerned about?

In other news, I found this amusing:
David Ignatius is a journalist and author. Formerly of the Wall Street Journal, he's now an editor and columnist at the Washington Post. He's also written several novels, mostly spy-fiction stuff.

He'd show up to rallies with literally no supporters, or more Trump supporters than his own.
He did poorly in the debates.
He threw lids on campaigning for a week as election day was coming to hide from fraud allegations with China.
Came back from the basement full of gaffes and incoherent speeches.
He breaks the record with most votes in history.
He bumps turnout to record highs (>100%) -- but only in states with a narrow margin.
He "flips" a few states.
Republicans still have a big win in the House.
Republicans still have a big win with minority support.
Yeah, I'd say it's less than ideal to have to run as an incumbent while the country is battling a virus.
