The Senate has failed to reach the 60 votes required to end the Democratic filibuster and keep government open. Unless Democrats decide to abandon their filibuster in the next hour and a half, the federal government will shut down.

My take on it, is that democrats are terrified of losing latino votes if the republicans can actually succeed with immigration reform.
If it becomes a non-issue, there won't be much incentive for a group that is typically very conservative to stay on their side.
They clearly don't actually want to make any sort of deal, or they wouldn't be pulling this stunt right now.

Some people who are identified as Latino for demographic / census purposes came to the US legally, obtained citizenship, and believe that if others want to do the same, they should be free to do it.
But **** them in the goat-hole if they try to skirt the rules and jump the border illegally. You wanna be an American? Do it right, José.
Or, put another way, "immigration reform" means shutting down stupid-*** programs like DACA for those of us brown folks who didn't cheat the system.

Some of my work will be used to keep our embassies safer.

Sweden will do whatever it takes, including sending in the army, to end a wave of gang violence that has seen a string of deadly shootings, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said in Wednesday.
...
Sweden’s murder rate is relatively low in international terms, but gang violence has surged in recent years and Swedes are worried that the police are unable to cope. In 2016, the latest year for which official statistics are available, 106 people were murdered in Sweden, a country of 10 million. But Swedish TV reported there were over 300 shootings, mostly in turf battles between gangs over drugs, protection rackets and prostitution.
Four people were shot dead in the first week of this year. One man died after picking up a hand grenade outside a subway station in a suburb of Stockholm.
Law and order is likely to be a major issue in a parliamentary election scheduled for September with the populist, opposition Sweden Democrats linking public concern about the rising crime rate to a large increase in the numbers of immigrants.
“It would not be my first option to bring in the military, but I am prepared to do whatever is necessary to make sure that serious, organized crime is stamped out,” Lofven told news agency TT.
The government has promised police an extra 7.1 billion crowns ($880 million) through 2020, toughened laws on gun crimes and made it easier for the police to monitor private phone calls and emails, among other measures.
But a report by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention shows increasing numbers of Swedes worried about crime with confidence falling in the police and the judicial system.

BREAKING: Thousands of New Strzok-Page Text Messages Reference "SECRET SOCIETY" Within DOJ and FBI WORKING AGAINST TRUMP (VIDEO)
According to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, 50,000 text messages were exchanged between Peter Strzok and his mistress Lisa Page. These 50,000 text messages do not include the ‘missing’ texts.
Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) said after reviewing the new text messages he believes there may have been a “secret society” of folks within the DOJ and FBI working against Trump.

Fortunately, the state of Illinois is making it illegal for kids to play football, because there's some evidence which suggests that repeatedly being thumped on the head may be bad for you.
Proposed law would ban tackle football for kids under 12 in Illinois - Chicago Tribune
Thus far, Rugby remains unaffected.

They banned hitting under the rules of usa hockey in kids under 13 years ago... It used to be 10 or 11 when I was playing.
In my opinion it's far better for kids to learn how to give and receive a hit when they're young. Kids are generally smaller, lighter, and not as fast. Wait until they are older and you run the risk of being contacted by someone with a greater weight and skill gap. It's backwards logic made by committees of pencil pushers who have never played or didn't play much of the sport. It is not in these kids best interests, health wise, to start hitting at an older age.
*They also banned icing the puck when on a penalty kill, you have to skate it out when short handed now. If that tells you anything about the people making these rules.
