and just like that MLB's viewership just dropped 25%.

If only they waited for the correction and didn't just believe the fake news... But then we still had Biden repeating it today, despite it being a 4-nosed.

It's from the impeachment hearing day 4 - the defense' turn (a great watch overall when you want to compare arguing via feelings vs definitions).

Starts at 45:45 and runs through ~48:00 - in the interest of context, etc.

Meanwhile, those people who are convinced that the earth is flat views everyone who does not agree (which, hopefully, is literally every single person reading this) as sheep, or non-woke, or part of the conspiracy, or some other synonym.

Because every contentious issue is like that.

The only meaningful distinction is where one's own beliefs lie on the opinion curve. If it's a contested issue, then your own belief tends to seem naturally and obviously correct, and those with opposing viewpoints must therefore be defective in some way in their thought process.

And, from their point of view, the reverse is also true.

Recognizing this disparity is important to understanding any contentious issue. Or, more importantly, understanding the contention surrounding the issue.

Agreed here. It's just in the beginning of the argument when the 2 parties that are arguing... it's coming to a point where an opinion curve does not exist. Whether we like it or not, as an American adult, you are allowed to believe in whatever the hell you want, even a lie. That truth is seemingly fading (at least from where I'm looking at things).

Conversations go like this...

A: "This is the truth!"

B: "I don't agree"

C: "You are an evil person. Probably a nazi. Everything about you needs to be ruined until you see my truth."

Joe,

I don't believe your flat earth analogy captures the problem at hand, as it does not include the government aspect. The real issue is that roughly half the population does not believe their government is just and right and true, and the roughly other half can't imagine a world where their government is less than perfect.

For example, why did Building 7 of the World Trade Center collapse in exactly the same way that the Twin Towers did, even though it was not struck by an airplane and had very minimal damage? One answer supposes the government is just and right and true, and is difficult to believe, and the other answer is really frickin' scary...

The truth is that the World Trade Center complex was not destroyed on 9/11. All of the original buildings are still there, however most of us have so thoroughly bought into the story that we simply don't notice them anymore. The story was / is just that powerful.

The so-called "terrorist attack" on Sep 11, 2001 was, in fact, a complex theatrical production funded jointly by the Durst organization and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Both wished to increase the amount of rentable office space at the WTC complex, however numerous city and community organizations opposed further development of the site.

By staging the so-called attack (a remarkably well-choreographed stage show, I must admit), and also purchasing a surplus Soviet-era target drone to crash into a section of the Pentagon which very conveniently happened to be entirely empty and unoccupied due to "renovation," public opinion was so catalyzed that the people actually stood up and demanded that an additional World Trade Tower be constructed, all neatly funded by taxpayer dollars and public bonds, of course.

edit: [personal shit redacted]

And, to be clear, this is intended as a parody of extremist-conspiracy viewpoints.

poormxdad 04-02-2021 07:46 PM

Interesting response. I meant that only as an example of choosing between trusting and not trusting your government. You did not answer the question. Even if you believe the Twin Towers story, how do you explain Building 7?

I'm old. I've worked with people in the past that I considered complete fucking assholes, but I knew they were not stupid. I attempted to evaluate their positions and recommendations without regard for their obvious assholeitudeiness. I try to do that with the democrats/progressives/socialists. I ask myself "What if they're right?"

The only thing I can come up with is that they want to get us all vaccinated so the space aliens don't want to eat us, and they think so much of us, they're willing to destroy the entire country and its economy in order to save all our lives. That's all I can come up with in their behalf.

I expected that to be bad, but I didn't expect so many of the author's flaming hot "33 points" to be basic misunderstandings of high-school physics.

I hope you understand that I wrote that in a deliberate attempt at parody of an extremist opinion.

To be honest, I struggled a bit with mentioning Steve's name, and in retrospect, I'm gonna go and delete that part after I hit send here. That's still a painful memory, and I hope that it never isn't. I was up on North 110 on Sep 10, working on WKCR-FM's transmitter. We all would have been back the next day, had the chief engineer's daughter not come down with a cold the night before, causing him to call out the following morning.

Thousands of tons of flaming stuff crashing into stationary stuff at high velocity causes interesting things to happen.

Physicists, if objectively studying such an event in the lab, would describe such an interaction as "highly energetic."

Subject: AMERICA IN A NUTSHELL

Thought you would find this letter from Dave Ramsey interesting

This is America in a nutshell.
Thanks Dave Ramsey for being the one to state exactly what I feel.

*This morning, I realized that everything is about to change. No
matter how I vote, no matter what I say, lives are never going to be
the same.

I have been confused by the hostility of family and friends. I look at
people I have known all my life so hate-filled that they agree with
opinions they would never express as their own. I think that I may
well have entered the Twilight Zone.

You can't justify this insanity. We have become a nation that has lost
its collective mind.

We see other countries going Socialist and collapsing, but it seems
like a great plan to us.

Somehow it*s un-American for the census to count how many Americans
are in America.

People who say there is no such thing as gender are demanding a female
President.

Universities that advocate equality, discriminate against
Asian-Americans in favor of African-Americans.

Some people are held responsible for things that happened before they
were born, and other people are not held responsible for what they are
doing right now.

Criminals are caught-and-released to hurt more people, but stopping
them is bad because it's a violation of THEIR rights.

People who have never owned slaves should pay slavery reparations to
people who have never been slaves.

After legislating gender, if a dude pretends to be a woman, you are
required to pretend with him.

People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college
students who took out huge loans for their degrees.

Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome, but you*d better
be able to prove your dog is vaccinated.

Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to the US
must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate
gang-bangers who jump the southern fence are welcomed.

$5 billion for border security is too expensive, but $1.5 trillion for
*free* health care is not.

If you cheat to get into college you go to prison, but if you cheat to
get into the country you go to college for free.

And, pointing out all this hypocrisy somehow makes us "racists"!

Nothing makes sense anymore, no values, no morals, no civility and
people are dying of a Chinese virus, but it is racist to refer to it
as Chinese even though it began in China.

We are clearly living in an upside-down world where right is wrong and
wrong is right, where moral is immoral and immoral is moral, where
good is evil and evil is good, where killing murderers is wrong, but
killing innocent babies is right.

Wake up America. The great unsinkable ship Titanic America has hit an
iceberg, is taking on water and sinking fast.

Lord help us!
