The scare came as officials are concerned about an “insider attack” from service members deployed to the inauguration. The concerns are prompting the FBI to vet all 25,000 National Guard troops in the city.

The smoke is black, that means we need to hold another vote for President. We will know there is a new President when the smoke is white.

Funnily enough, I was just thinking about Occupy Wall Street.

I was in Manhattan at the time (working on the WCBS build), and was occasionally in their neck of the woods. Aside from vandalizing the statue of the bull, they mostly just committed petty crimes amongst themselves. (Thefts, sexual assault, etc.) Unlike the CHADs, they didn't shut down / wall off any part of downtown, loot local businesses, etc. New Yorkers don't tolerate that kind of shit.

It would have been hilarious if they'd have tried moving north towards Chinatown. That occupation would have ended in under an hour.

Says alot when you need to us the military to keep the people away from the inauguration.

Walls and guns are bad unless the left needs them.

Well we found a way around that silly Posse Comitatus Act.

Interestingly, the last time that happened wasn't terribly long after the last time the US Capitol was occupied and looted.

This was my wonder about the National Guard, I thought they couldn't be used like that. As usual rules only apply to Republicans.

?

32 U.S. Code § 904 specifically authorizes the US National Guard to "support or execute homeland defense activities" for a period of up to 180 consecutive days.

Posse Comitatus is not relevant here. 18 U.S. Code § 1386 applies only to the regular Army and the Air Force (by extension of its having evolved out of the Army.)

Curiously, it does not apply to the Navy, or to the Marine Corps. I'm not really sure if an Aircraft Carrier can navigate the Potomac River up to the Washington Channel, but I'll bet that a Marine Amphibious assault ship could. Wouldn't that be a sight?

That's not what they're doing here. This is a show of force that Congress is "untouchable".

Oh, I dunno about that. Representative Lauren Boebert (R, CO) looks pretty touchable.

As someone who has had to care for an E-N-G Mobile news van in the past, I can attest that this is true. Wolfcoach products are a world apart in terms of quality. Not just reliability, but little stuff like fit and finish. E-N-G trucks rattle like a cheap RV. They also do a uniquely terrible job of installing Auragens, which is a product that you really have to try hard to screw up.
