I am somewhat amused by the fact that the President and the Speaker of the House, two of the most powerful elected officials on earth, are bickering with one another on Twitter like a couple of neckbeards debating about some minute detail in an X-Men comic on which they passionately disagree.

But, eventually, this bill will pass. Every single bit of pork, plus the section which makes accessing streaming media on the internet without authorization a Federal crime.

Which is precisely why so many are apathetic.

In all seriousness, though... I'm reminded of my freshman or sophomore year of college. Taking some political science course to fulfill a gen-ed requirement. We had an assignment where, working in pairs, we had to draft a piece of proposed legislation and present it to a mock congress.

I have utterly no recollection as to what the bill we drafted was about, but I do recall very clearly having an idea for a prank. Went to the library and checked out a copy of the full text of the 1993 Clinton health care plan, and attached it to the bill as a rider. (Literally, with a staple.)

It was thick. Over a thousand pages. During the debate, a representative from the opposing party (whose *** we were kicking) picked up the bill, withdrew a lighter from his pocket, and set the whole thing on fire.

Mind you, this was a BORROWED copy of the document from the library.

The bill was quickly extinguished, but needless to say I had some explaining to do when I returned it. The prof was kind enough to write a note explaining what had happened.

This morning, I had to visit the grocery store. I'd forgotten to buy green olives two days ago, which was a crucial ingredient in today's cooking.

I went to the store nearest my home, which is one I'd never been to before, because it's to the west of where I live, whereas my usual work-commute is to the east.

It's one of those giant supermarkets which people in the suburbs consider normal. But here in the city, it's a rarity. Think Publix / Kroger / Vons.

While looking for the jar of olives, damn near lost in the aisle-upon-aisle labyrinth, I thought "This place is incredibly huge, and has way too much stuff in it!"

And it occurred to me: This is one problem which Socialism can actually solve!

Honest question: Can anyone explain to me why a republican president is suddenly pushing to give every American money? Isn't that socialist/communist?

Side note: even in my country, generally seen as a welfare state, such a large scale redistribution of money has never been on the table.

Our members of Congress long ago stopped acting in what they feel to be the best interests of the people by whom they were elected to represent.

The fact that a tiny check is being handed out to many of the people is really just incidental. Congress has become political theater, with two rival theater troupes vying for dominance.

Wasn't Trump's suggestion to raise the amount of the checks contingent upon the elimination of billions of pork from the bill, which would otherwise cover the increase in the check amounts? Of course Pelosi, Schumer, AOC, et al and the lib media all seize upon the increase check amount concept, but conveniently overlook the cuts to make it necessary. It a no-win for Trump because now the media will tell the story that, by not signing it, Trump stalled the existing bill with a tease for more, but did not deliver. Ahh, the lib media; when you control the message, you control the people's minds.

Saw a variant of this today, only it was a white male at a presentation board.

Some folks still haven't learned that the image of a white male speaking authoritatively is the exact symbol which the far-left are rebelling against.

Thus, with a pilfered stock photo and some image-processing to make her a tad darker, I have altered the meme:

I quoted this on FB as "Musings of a friend"

I think on par with some of @Joe Perez beter, albeit shorter in length than some of the best.
