Good deal on white '93 w/hardtop in VA
This was posted on NASIOC Mid Atlantic forum. I don't know the guy personally but he's a moderator over there.
-------
For sale: My 1993 Mazda Miata.
I bought the car in November 2004. I did one track event in my WRX and I wanted to do more, but without the risk of wrecking the WRX. I had narrowed it down to the MK2 MR2 (NA) and the Miata. After a lot of research I decided the Miata was the best way to go. (http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16529)
I bought the car from Jim Thill, a local Spec Miata racer. He only bought it to flip it. The original owner put 60K miles on the car. Jim said it was too nice to turn into a racecar. But he didn't say anything about it being too nice to be a track car The car had a rollbar, seats and harnesses 3 weeks later.
Today it has 95K. It's been a blast to own, but I don't need a track car anymore (priorities). Someone I know who's semi local was selling his MR2 and I thought this would be a great time to try something else.
Full disclosure: The car was autox'ed once and did six track events. I never hit anything, though
So, here's the rundown.
1993 Miata
"C" package: leather, headrest speakers
-Hardtop with working defroster. The hardtop was $1300, painting it was $100 and there was another $60 or so worth of little electronic bits to make the defroster work.
-According to Jim, the car has the viscous LSD. This would make the car a great starting point for an STS2 build.
Mods:
-Stock wheels were powdercoated black
-Piper Motorsport rollbar
-Samco radiator hoses
-Axxis Ultimate pads
-Tokico Blue shocks/springs
-Voodoo shift ****
-Voodoo ebrake handle (it was on sale)
-R-package front lip
-T-sport Rev Lite shift light (great for track/autox)
-Cupholder
Comes with the car:
-2x 6-point 3" Sparco harnesses with harness pads
-2x Piper Motorsport seat brackets (just add seats!)
-Mazdaspeed Engine mounts (never got around to installing these)
-Greddy shock tower brace
-OEM spoiler if you want it
-Full size spare
-A bunch of the 90-93 14x5.5 daisy wheels - at least 4, as many as 6 (can't remember)
First, the bad.
-Well, it's a 15 year old car.
-ABS doesn't work. It might be as simple as a fuse. I never checked - I like it better without it.
-Lots of scratches/scuffs on the paint (most notably front bumper)
-Dent on the hood where my extension cord fell on it
-Hood is steel, not aluminum. Previous owner was in some sort of minor accident (which is why the bumper is messed up) and I guess he is cheap.
-Headrest speakers don't work
-Hood release doesn't pop the hood quite all the way - have to fight with it a little
-AC does not blow cold
-Stereo LCD does not light up at night (this apparently happens a lot)
-Car came with a spoiler that I removed... I put bolts through the holes (vortex generators!)
-Soft top is cracked (need pic)
-Car usually starts the first time, but always starts the second time. Fuel filter maybe?
Good:
-Hardtop!
-Recent oil analysis says engine is in good shape
-Pretty up to date on maintainence.
--New rear wheel bearings (Feb 06)
--New radiator hoses
--Fresh alignment
--Front balljoints installed (December 06)
--Recent brake fluid flush (Super Blue.. this year)
--Power steering fluid flush
--3 new shift boots
--Fresh turret fluid
--New spark plugs
--Timing belt / water pump done at ~75K
--New plug wires (Magnecor (sp))
-Pretty much a set of tires away from being autoxed or tracked tomorrow
-Gets you one step closer to being a moderator
I am going to get all the records together at some point this week so I can fill in the details. I did all the easy stuff - oil changes, brake fluid, rotors/pads, suspension stuff. Rosenthal Mazda in Arlington did all the harder stuff, like the timing belt. PBC did the wheel bearings.
I'm asking $2800 for the car + hardtop. If I can find separate buyers for the car and the hardtop I would split them - $900 for the hardtop and $2000 for the car.
I have been DD'ing it since I bought it. The car has never let me down. It's been a great car to own and were I not switching to a *different* lightweight RWD car I would be very sad right now.
Pics coming...

Some pics. It needs some work, but hell, with a hardtop it's still a good deal.
