FS: 1990 turbo Miata (Gainesville, FL)
Hi folks,
I am selling the 1990 turbo Miata I built for the $2009 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. The car performed very well, placing 8th out of 55+ cars in the auto-x portion. I am going in a different direction for next year and need to sell this car before embarking on another project.
Here are the details:
1990 turbo Miata
120k miles
5 speed
Price: $3,000
Engine/under the hood
Stock motor
Greddy turbo kit
Cold air intake
HKS filter
AIT delete option
Front mount intercooler (needs a better mounting solution)
Koyo aluminum radiator (not yet installed)
2.5” test pipe
2.5” custom exhaust
BOV
Megasquirt standalone (custom built by Braineack)
550cc injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Vacuum boost gauge
Drivetrain/Suspension/Chassis
KYB adjustable shocks/H&R springs
ACT extreme pressure plate
ACT 4-puck disc
Shock tower brace
Mazdaspeed comp motor mounts
Rota 15x6.5 rims (decent condition)
225/45/15 Hoosier R6 (2 weekend’s use)
Interior/Exterior
Gutted interior
Top half of dash present
Factory seats
Hardtop (some damage by right front latch but completely weatherproof)
The car wasn't running right when I bought it, but now runs and drives incredibly strong. It recently placed 8th in the auto-x of The $2008 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge (a competition of 55+ cars) with zero testing or tuning. It was built to be a track car and wouldn’t be terribly pleasant for long highway cruises. After purchasing the car, I discovered that the floorboards had rust, so I cut them out and patched them with galvanized steel. The yellow portions of the exterior appear to be factory paint while the lower half was recently painted with Rustoleum. It is as hard as nails and incredibly durable. At some point in its life, the car was in a small right front collision which appears to have been repaired well, but accounts for the misaligned headlight cover.

I have not had the car on a dyno, but the car pulls well once the boost comes on.
I originally found this car via a link on this forum. I purchased it for $2300 and have since added the 1) hardtop; 2) custom built MS unit; 3) the Koyo aluminum radiator, and; 4) nearly new Hoosier race tires.
The title is clear and in hand. Currently the car is registered in Florida. Please contact me for any additional questions. Thanks.

m2cupcar, that was my original intent when building the car. I've competed in the GRM Challenge 2 years in a row, but the magazine hinted that next year's event would be on the west coast somewhere rather than Gainesville. So the Miata was destined to be my track car going forward. They changed their mind and announced at this year's banquet that they decided to stay put.
Given that, I want to build another car for next year rather than keeping this one.
Add a bar to this car and it's the perfect track toy.
BTW, I lived in Atlanta for 14 years and drove in several events at Road Atlanta. What a track!

danscreations, thanks, but I think the car will sell better with a hardtop, given that it is pretty much purpose built for the track as it sits. I know that if I was going to track it, I would feel best with a bar and the hardtop.
m2cupcar, most likely we have then. Most of my events were BMWCCA HPDE's in the mid to late '90's. I had a red e36 M3 and then a diamantschwartz e30 M3. Neither one of which had 302rwhp or weighed as little as a Miata!

You're correct...$2009 event is officially scheduled for Gainesville. That was a pleasant surprise.
And thanks for the help and suggestions at the event. Syncromesh cured our ills.
Speaking of GRM, I have the car listed for sale there as well (minus the hardtop, radiator and wheels/tires) for $2008. I would make the same offer here, if anyone is interested.
