[WI] 1996 Montego Blue EFR-powered 62k miles
Hi. Getting old sucks. I want to drive and not wrench so much. I built this car over the course of 4 years and put 5k miles on it.
I'm shopping ND2's.
I'd like to keep this post to the facts, so I will link where you can pull pictures from:
Driveline:
Thank you for looking. I'll update pics and answer questions as soon as possible.
I'm shopping ND2's.
I'd like to keep this post to the facts, so I will link where you can pull pictures from:
- Some build stuff, from the transition to the original driveline to the VVT swap: https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...1/#post1567627
- Pictures album where I will continue to add things: https://photos.app.goo.gl/izDcacgvb1ytc5aX7
- The pictures in the g-album right at this second have three current state "as dirty as it gets", plus a few older ones. Interior, engine bay, and on jacks are from today. My plan is to clean it up more and post detailed condition pictures.
- I have much detail in spreadsheets for motor build, as desired
- 1996 base model in Montego blue
- 62k miles
- Located in greater Madison, WI
- Clean WI title, in my name
Driveline:
- 1.8 VVT swap
- Stock pistons, Manley rods
- ARP main studs
- ACL rod and mains
- Boundary oil pump
- Superdamper
- Refreshed head w/ new valve stem seals
- VVT components rebuild/refresh
- Trackspeed manifold/downpipe kit w/ EFR 6258
- FM FMIC
- Skunk2 IM and TB
- FM 3" exhaust (quiet)
- FlowForce 640cc w/ DW200
- MS3 basic by Reverant
- Tuned by Jeff Evans, set up around 16psi peak
- Late-VIN 6 speed ~100k miles
- FM flywheel
- FM level 2 clutch
- MR long boi shifter
- MSM 4.1 LSD ~75k miles
- OE axles
- Poly bushings
- SuperMiata Crossflow
- SuperMiata reroute
- FM Stage 1 airflow kit
- Corbeau LE-Pro w/ carbon kevlar inlay option
- Flipside seat brackets
- Autometer gauges for boost, coolant temp
- Rev9 Nardi Deep Corn 330mm
- Amazon front lip
- CarbonMiata GV rep filler panel w/ Mazda OEM lenses
- FM Fox coilovers
- SuperMiata bigly grip sways and endlinks
- 15x8 Enkei RPF1 in SBC w/ 225/45 BFG Rival @ 50% tread
- ePowerSteering Kit (power rack looped)
- New rear uprights/bearings by Panic Motorsports
- FM little big brake kit (front only)
- THERE'S NO RUST
- It's damn nice, but not perfect. When I bought it, the CarFax showed it "hit an animal". Pretty common stuff in WI, and UP MI, where it came from. I was told it was a racoon, not so sure. Didn't care, clearly, as its as nice as you can find these days. The fenders have their VIN tags.
- There is a small amount of non-original paint, especially in the passenger side door. The paint quality is great, but the work underneath it is not 100%, as there is some sanding "wave" in the panel. A daring person might wet sand. I am not daring. This is all minor enough that it's damn impossible to show in pictures.
- The car is nice enough that I spent about $600 on PDR to remove what annoying ****** do, and I suspect you'd never know the difference.
- I am not a professional fender roller, sorry. There is some minor chipping under the front fenders. I tried my best w/ a proper roller.
- Sticky tires are rough on fender paint, there is some minor "sanding" on the very bottom of the fenders.
- The bottom of the front bumper cover is a little scuffed on the underside. The lip hides it. If you hate the lip, you should still be OK
- The original filler panel and tails are included. The panel itself is 100% intact, but has an extra coat of OK clear coat over to preserve what was starting to fail.
- The top is in very nice shape.
- The interior is in very nice shape, minus one tab is missing from the panel under the steering wheel. I intend to repair
- The Skunk2 TB sticks a bit. I amended this by extra spring tension on my first TB, and then the spring broke at AutoX. You'll have the opportunity to do as you wish. This one has not been modified. I'll include the old TB as well.
- Mechanically, I am not aware of any acute needs. I, and you, will be annoyed by the 6 speed seeping from the tail shaft mating point. Apparently these all leak, I did not find this out until after I installed the 6 speed. It will have to be pulled and RTV'ed. Repaired 1/22/23.
- Original VIN-matched, perfectly healthy, 1.8 motor and 5 speed trans are INCLUDED
- Most of what has been removed from the car, I still have, minus AC and open diff, anything I can give to you in this regard is INCLUDED
- Other notable included items: Stock filler panel/tail lights, OK condition seats, steering wheel, ECU
- These cost extra and are not included, car buyer has right of first refusal
- Low mileage 3.6 rear with new bearings and seals
- Low mileage late-VIN 6 speed
- $14k car only
- $negotiable including what is listed in spares. No shipping, you'll have to come meet me and drive it or tow it yourself.
- My intent is to sell this to you at a reasonable price with a good amount of room for good will if something goes wrong or is not 100% as you expect. There are absolutely no guarantees in this realm, so I'm trying to be reasonable.
Thank you for looking. I'll update pics and answer questions as soon as possible.

Yeah, no part out happening.
If you're interested in sourcing the seats new, shoot me a PM. I can get you in touch w/ who I worked with. They're super easy to contact and will quote everything up-front.
My intent is to have formalized pictures/condition updated for this weekend. I'm sure everyone's chomping at the bit here at MT, but more realistically, I'm acknowledging it will probably get sold via CL or FB. If you know anyone looking though, please send them my way and I can wax poetic about every last detail...

Alright folks, tons of pictures are getting dumped into the album as we speak. I tried to capture all the places people normally don't want you to look.
Further, it hasn't seen a buffer in a couple of years so after a wash I feel its in pretty respectable and honest condition.
Being this is the worst time of the year to sell a sports car in the north, a few notes:

Being this is the worst time of the year to sell a sports car in the north, a few notes:
- The car isn't going anywhere, it will sit in my heated garage until spring or it sells.
- If you are interested and we get to the point where you need to test drive it: The roads in my immediate vicinity are not too full of salt, I feel like we could take it out on a dry day and no hard feelings.
- If you pay for the car, we might be able to discuss short-term storage terms if needed.
