Asking price is $9300
1996 Mazda Spec Miata
I bought this SM in the summer in 2009 from New Mexico and hauled it here to Michigan. The car had already been built by the previous owner and had just four races on it. The previous owner actually owned the local track, but decided he didn’t like wheel-to-wheel racing and was building a time attack Mitsu Evo 9. He had previously daily driven this Miata (car has a title) and it spent its entire life in the southwest. There is no rust or signs of it on the car including the undercarriage and wrenching on it is a breeze. Since bringing it back to MI, it has been through 12 race weekends.
Since owning the car, it has only been raced at Waterford Hills. My rookie season the car was running midpack and by the end of the season it was qualifying and finishing 3rd or 4th. The next year, the car was again running with the front pack of Miatas and did bring home a win in SM.
Mechanically, the car has been nothing but rock solid for me. I’ve never had a mechanical DNF or failure. It just keeps ticking.
The engine is a stock 1.8L motor that puts out a solid dyno number. (I can provide dyno sheets.) It has a K&N air filter, proper 45 mm restrictor plate, and an Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator, gauge, and fuel test port. -As a race car, it has only seen Redline or AMS Signature synthetic oil and Wix oil filters.
The body overall is good but not prefect with some small bumps and bruises here and there. But it has never been in a serious accident, never had any rear quarter work done or frame work. It has never had suspension damage or work done due to an accident. The driver front fender has been replaced with a Mazda OE part.
When not racing, the car has always been stored inside and the fuel system properly winterized during the cold months.
Car will make minimum weight with 215 lbs driver. I did not need ballast in the car.
It will come on a set of straight black Kazera KZM wheels with used Hoosier SM6s that are about half worn. It will also come with spares like extra suspension components (I bought for the “just in case” repair), a perfect passenger fender, perfect driver door, perfect rear bumper cover, Mazda OEM car cover, and spare rear hubs/upright for rebuilding. I also have a spare low mile (64k) ’96 motor and transmission that can be negotiated separately.-
I am keeping my transponder and the numbers will come off, but all other decals will stay. Just add your transponder, numbers, and go racing.
Here is a list of parts and updates on the car:
-Hard top
-Full Spec Miata suspension
-’99 shock hats
-Fat Cat bump stops
-Excellent camber numbers
-SCCA approved adjustable front sway bar (per revised rules)
-Advanced Autosport adjustable end links
-Koyo aluminum radiator

-Sparco Evo 2 seat with V2 Motorsports installed tunnel notch panel
