1994 R Package project
I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time to part ways with my 1994 R model. It’s been fun, but work and family obligations have made wrenching an added stressor rather than a fun hobby. The car features good parts, but I’ll start with the bad. Approximately two years ago I had the head rebuilt after a failed water pump caused the engine to overheat. I installed the head, ID1000 injectors, and a Kia waterneck coolant reroute, and got the car idling, but then my work exploded and the car was parked. I recently tried to get it back on the road, but it’s overheating (not at idle) and I haven’t been able to update the tune for the new injectors.
On to the good. The car has 154,900 miles on the chassis and long block with <100 miles on a rebuilt cylinder head. It’s equipped with a Begi Shanghai turbo kit with separated gases downpipe, Garrett T28 (GT 2560) Turbo, front mounted ebay intercooler, Inconel studs, and a 3” downpipe back exhaust with valved Flowmaster muffler. Injector Dynamics ID1000 injectors in a Vishnu dual-feed fuel rail handling fueling controlled by a DIYPNP Megasquirt w/ Innovate LC-1 wideband O2 sensor. The chassis features a Hard Dog racing roll-bar with foam and leather wrap, Flyin’ Miata frame rails, good convertible top, custom valved Bilstein shocks (by Kenny Hendrick of Suspension Systems LLC) with 550 lb/in front springs and 350 lb/in rear springs, Racing Beat front and rear anti-sway bars with 949 SuperMiata end links, Konig Helium wheels and has the factory torsen diff. The interior features a Momo steering wheel, new carpet and re-upholstered seats (with small repaired tears). The exterior was resprayed from the original red to the current metallic gray in 2012. The paint is far from perfect with some visible runs and weathering, but it’s good enough for a daily driver or track rat.
At this point I don’t really have time to part the car out, so I’d like to sell the car in as-in condition for someone else to get on the road. Car is located in Dayton OH. I'm going to start the price at $3000 and go from there. I'm open to offers, but probably not trades. I'd love to see the car go to someone that will get it on the street again and have as much fun with it as it did. I will continue trying to address the current issues as time allows and I'll update this thread as necessary. Please let me know if you have any questions.
