Default 1993 Mazda Miata - $5000

Category: Import
Status: Salvage

I have a 1993 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - California.

Mileage: 1989xxx miles
VIN: JMINA3519P1419507
Engine Size: 1.8

Asking price is $5000

Seller Information: Robert Sachs
Phone: (415) 875-2410
Email: rsachs@fenwick.com

I'm selling what used to be Sleeper MX5's car:
https://www.miataturbo.net/showpost....82&postcount=1

Since I bought the car in May 2009, here's what I've done:
New custom blue interior with new dark blue carpet;
Repainted door panels and interior parts
New Corbeau A4 seats, with Microseude surface, and custom blue bolsters Hard Dog M2 Roll Bar
Autometer Cobalt gauges including water temp, oil temp, EGT, AFR, and boost (gauges alone were almost $1,000). (Oil temp gauge installed but not yet connected).
Inconel studs/locking fasteners (from Savington/Trackspeed Engineering).
New battery
Battery Brain Gold, with remote battery disconnect
Custom install of Performance Box http://www.performancebox.co.uk/ in Radio panel, along with additional GPS antenna. (Not shown in photos yet, will upload).
New Harmonic Damper
1.8 Calipers all around (Sleeper did not in fact have this on the car) and EBC yellows.
RC injectors reflowed and calibrated.
New power window switches, motors adjusted.
New O2 sensor

You can see from the above that I'm into the car for at least another $3k. So you're getting a car that's got over 12k in parts and mods. Discount by 50% and that's 6k.

Car serviced at PR Motorsports in Hayward.

The bad:
Salvage title (rear end damage).
Needs repaint.
Car is not smogged, I'm selling as Non-Operational. You'll have to smog it. The Turbo is CARB approved. But you'll have to fake the CEL (I'll include a half-done 555 timer kit).

Why am I selling? Too many cars, too little time. I have 7 cars, including another Miata. This was to be my next track car, but I bought a Lotus Elise.

So, yes, I'm losing serious cash on this car, but I have get rid of it. $5000 is firm.

Default Anyone?

Ok, at the risk of being flamed--or more likely incinerated--what's with the deafening silence? Could it be:

a) I'm not a regular poster, an outsider, and so no reputation, no creds, no respect?

b) I'm overvaluing the car and it's overpriced.

c) Market is soft

d) The car looks like cr@p on the outside, and a blue berry pie explosion on the inside. (FWIW, I was going to paint it, but which I decided to sell, I figured a buyer would want to do their own custom paint).

e) All of the above.

So flame away.... I'm sure I've heard worse--I've been married 23 years.

people are broke

the smurf blue interior is hideous, but for that price I'm sure someone can deal with it.
Great deal
Bump for you.

C) as ****.

If I'd have known cars like this would be showing up for sale I wouldn't have dumped as much money into parts for mine. Oh well.

Some pictures of the exterior wouldn't hurt.

The holidays are probably slowing alot of people down. I know if I took off for the holidays to buy a toy, I'd get some heat for it.

Also, in a lot of places Miata's are off season.

Wish I were closer, I'd be all over this.

One last detail: included is an "iShift" sequential shifter light. Installed on top of the steering column.

The exterior sucks. It needs a repaint, no question. Heck, buy the car, part out the engine, turbo, tranny, gauges, seats, etc, and you'll easily make your 5k back. Then you can give away the body for someone to run Lemons.

As to the "smurf blue" interior: Actually smurf blue is a bit lighter in color. This is darker blue. Personally, I can't stand tan or brown, or cream colored interiors. And black is boring.

As to the economy: Perhaps. But I sold my 91 NA Track Dog in less than 24 hours. Posted Monday evening and by Tuesday afternoon it was gone. And that was for $2,500. The Turbo is way more than 2x the car.

If it's twice the car than list this for 1250 and you'll sell it within 24 hours too.

At first, I was confused by your suggestion. Than I realized I'm getting financial advice from a guy named Curly. Obviously, if I half the price to 1250 then I have to double the time to 48 hours. Duh.

Well you said a $2500 race car that was twice the car as this one, sold in 24 hours. So if you're expecting to sell it as quickly, I think you have to offer it for $1250.

[staccato] No, no, no, no, no[/staccato] I said "The Turbo is way more than 2x the [91 NA] car. "

We're attempting to clarify the precise pricing equation that should apply to the car.

Sounds like a fun car. I've got a few questions:
  • Are you sure the engine is a 1.8L? Paperwork looks like it's a 1.6.
  • Is the registration current? (I saw what you said about not being smogged)
  • Any cats on it?
  • Are there any remnants of the rear end damage still around?

it's FM built 1.6L engine. I drove the car before and it's FAST. The engine work is worth over 4K. Good deal for a miata that push more than 300HP.

My bad, it's 1.6. Car is fast; fingers too much so.

Cat: Yes. But I have not yet tried to smog. It will fail visual bec. no CEL.

Damage: you can see it in the trunk bed, not externally. If I can find time before I take off for Tahoe, I'll upload more photos.
