I know I'm just a pleb but I have had good luck when consolidating wires using twisted pair security wire. 14 gauge 4 conductor already insulated and in some cases shielded. You can get this at home depot. granted, you're rewiring a bunch of things, and braids are badass. just sharing.
Would anyone be interested in a full set of LEDs for NA miata for, say, $50 shipped? eBay grade LEDs. sure, but they all use the same damn chips, amirite? Would include all exterior bulbs except headlights. Will also throw in a resistor to mod your flasher module so it blinks normally.
Anyone interested?
Any idea how many of the bulbs would still work on an NB? If the answer is almost all, I'm interested.

It looks like only the side markers, turn signals and trunk brake light have the same bulbs. Tail lights and license plate night are completely different.
I'll see if I can get enough NA buyers, then maybe I'll do NBs

this made wiring for coil packs so easy. I think you can get up to 6 wire somewhere.
Yeah you can also use ethernet cable for sensors and what not - twisted pair, high quality copper, shielded. But the problem with all of these is that they are not heat rated. What you want is GXL or TXL wire, which is automotive grade. It is rated to 125C and has Cross-Linked Polyethylene insulation - which stays elastic and doesn't crack with age/heat/vibration.
Rear chassis wiring harness. 9 wires - 5 lights, lights ground, fuel pump on, fuel level sensor and fuel sensor gorund. 2 wires inner, 7 wires outer. Very compact since all the wires are 22-18ga
Front wiring harness with all the wires. 16 in total. 3 layers with 1 - 5 - 11 wires. They are all different gauge, which makes it harder to braid.
The way my schedule is right now, I get about 1-2 hours of Miata time every day. My wife leaves for work before 6am and I don't get to the office till 8-10. So lately, every morning I get some quality Miata time.
Are you going for max weight savings? or simplicity? or both?
that's pretty legit if it ends up working good
Neither, really. I got fed up with how unnecessary complicated the car is wired from the factory. My wipers weren't working and it took me a very, very long time to find the problem. Turns out there is some magic power wire that runs through the dash and steering column. its solid blue and I removed all solid blue wires because I thought it was ABS. One of them is for the wipers. Took me like a week to trace it.
The Miata wiring is great from manufacturing point of view and **** terrible from "I want to **** around with my ca" point of view. Do you know how long the OEM fan wire from the relay to the fan is? It's like 12ft. Want to guess the voltage drop? The fusebox has a fuse for the headlight motor yet the relay is under the dash. So, the power goes from battery, to fuse, then to relay, then along each fender to the headlights. And the headlight motor has like, 14ga wiring. The massive amounts of wiring on both sides of the engine bay, it's excessive.
Te dashboard has a huge *** harness behind it. AFAIK you can't start the car without the dashboard. I understand that it was probably done so that Mazda can make RHD and LHD cars with just a different dashboard + dashboard harness, but it annoys me.
So I guess I'm just trying to simplify things. It will definitely weight less, but that's not why I'm doing it. I'm running one harness to the front, one to the back, both on passenger side. That's all you need.
Color coded is nice, maybe your wiring is better than mine. My stock wiring is all junky and crusty. I do need more colors though. I have too much of the same color wires.
Looking at the quality of those braids make me wonder if you grew up as the only boy in your family with 5 older sisters - that's some experienced plaiting there.
So I've been working on the wiring, almost every morning, monday-friday. I got to the point where I needed to splice 3 large-gauges wires together for the headlights. None of my 2 crimpers really worked so I got 2 more. I splurged and got a beast crimper for a small fortune. But now I can crimp several 14ga wires like a boss.
Pictars
Various splices. I think most are 10-20 cents a piece
For small crimps. Very precise, not too expensive
These are tiny 20 or 22 ga wires. The splice is very small.
Close up. Those are small individual copper strands.
