Shuiend blows motor #5; Naturally Aspirated Glory Incoming

Late to this party but...
Reality check when doing timing belt is super easy.
At TDC #1 firing, #4 should show the exhaust cam about to finish closing and intake cam starting to open. Overlap IOW.
Or at TDC #4 firing, #1 should show the exhaust cam about to finish closing and intake cam starting to open.
Lars I hope your intake valves didn't strike the piston. The VVT motor is now an interference engine with Supertech pistons.

You're a big kid now Lars. You've graduated to Huggies Pull-Ups so you should be able to do your own timing belt. If you want to cheat though, look at the belt and both pulleys and see if the green sharpie marks I put on them are still visible. If they are, just line everything up by the marks. All you're changing is the cam position behind the pulley, so the marks will still be in the correct locations relative to each other. Turn the crank 1 5/6 revolutions and set the tensioner, go the extra 1/6 turn and make sure the marks are all still lined up and you're done. 5-10 minutes mang.

Its more of holding the intake cam in the right place while putting the belt over both cam gears. I need 3 hands to do it and actually get it lined up right. The cheating trick with the using vice grips and 2 wrenches does not exactly work as well on the VVT head with the tools I have. Remember when you did the Timing Belt Scott that Matt was holding the intake cam in place?

He should be fine. The motor felt nice and smooth turning it over by hand (once we flipped the cam caps around to the proper orientation), and we now know it was the exhaust cam that was off. Intake cam timing was correct. I'm pretty sure.

Also you guy fail to realize how quickly Brain does timing belts. IDK how he does it. It is pure magic. I am pretty sure you can blindfold him and tie 1 hand behind his back and he would still get it done perfectly in less then 30 seconds the first try. I on the other hand end up spending an hour taking the belt on and off trying to get **** to line up right. Brain just has a comparative advantage and I simply want to leverage it or else he does not get his timing light or det cans back.

Car was started and ran for about 2min for Brain and I to set timing. Then it was promptly shut off. I tried to get a video but it was to dark out. I will do a compression test tomorrow. Now the car is done being worked on until at least the 17th of August when I get down to SC for good. It will be started and moved onto a trailer Friday and then off the trailer saturday.
Only problem so far is OPG does not show any pressure. I am betting I did not screw it on enough to get a good reading. Also does anyone know if the oil pressure sender from the 01 actually reads what your pressure is, or just if it is getting pressure?

The gauge in the cluster is a real one to and worked on the old motor. So it should work on the new one. I will see if I can squeeze in half an hour today to figure it out.

here's how last night went:
Brain shows up.
*two minutes pass*
Brain: okay crank it.
*crank crank crank*
Brain: stop stop stop, It sounds better but I can tell, because im so brilliant, that even though your coil harnesses are now labeled, you have them hooked up wrong.
*swaps connectors*
Brain: crank it again.
VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
