Scooter - A Miata Journey and ITB Noises
#146
Installed after low pressure warning light flashed consistently at one particular corner of one track, never happened again afterwards.
Installed with a tap/valve, isolated on cool-down lap to store oil under pressure theoretically if you open it prior to a cold start you will get some oil flowing to bearings, but the value comes when pressure drops: the air bladder forces oil back into the system when oil pressure drops below the pressure held in the bladder, it is then refilled when oil pressure returns to nominal. Ideally plumbed after the oil filter, as that acts as a one-way valve.

Very cool. Thank you for sharing that bit of information, @Gee Emm and @sixshooter . I'll keep it in mind if the pressure drops become concerning.
I haven't done any work on the car since the last track day. Only checked the oil which was at the full mark (YAY), looked over the logs to ensure the tune is good, and watched more GLTC videos. I drove the car to work a couple of times this week which was fun, and signed up for my first autocross this weekend. I don't think it'll be very competitive in autox, and have no idea what class they'll put me in because of the swap and ITBs. Probably CSP or XB? We shall see!

My $0.02 is that if you're not running race tires just go to XB. That's what I run my car in after a few years pretending to be CSP legal. Our local club has a really fun group of XB cars including a couple turbo'd Miatas, a 2.5 swap NC, a GC8 Impreza and a couple others. Usually some really fun cars in that class. Bonus, not that I think many of us care about it, but the XB pax is better than CSP's (0.849 vs 0.860).

YEYEYE! What a weekend.
It all started by doing some checks on the car. Oil was clean and at the full mark and the catch can had a slight amount of oil in it. Not bad. Unfortunately I again found that the drain plug in the catch can was leaking. I applied a bit of sealant and gave it a good tug.
I then took a peek at the sway bar, because I had the feeling it was seized (car understeered a lot at the track), and sure enough, it was impossible to move. I backed out the bolts and counter nuts on the rainforcement plates until I was able to move it by hand with resistance and left it be. Everything else in the pre-race checks was fine!
Friday I packed my shii into the Miata to go to my friend's house because he offered to trailer the car. The plan was to camp two nights and return Sunday.
This was my first time camping
Others had setup a project to watch the F1 practice. Fun crowd
Scooter was placed in XB because of the ITBs and engine swap. I was placed in the Novice class because I had not autocrossed before. It was a little overwhelming at first because the club runs a fast paced event to get 6 to 8 runs per group per day, and as such I forgot to setup the GoPro on Saturday. They also put me as #1 in grid of group A, so first one on course...nice.
At any rate, Saturday we did 8 runs, and I finished 2nd in Novice, and 27th out of 50 in Raw. I'll take it! First place was my friend Tyler in his 30th anniversary ND2 with fresh new Xidas that we installed 2 weeks ago.
Sunday I was up to pace with the event and setup the GoPro first thing in the morning, after coffee, of course.
Teched and ready to start
Sunday we did 6 sessions. And this is the video of my last session, my fastest of the day.
No cones were harmed in the making of this film
This time, I took 1st in class, and 16th Raw out of 59!
Headed back home
I'm a sucker for motorsports patina on a car (sandblasted wheel arches, exhaust soot, etc.)
At the end of it all, I'm hooked with Autox. It was a lot of fun and the community is fantastic. I also realized that this was my first Autox, but not Scooter's. The PO autocrossed it for a long time! Admittedly, it is far from the car it used to be in 2017, but still a cool thought.
The BP-6D continues to do very well, although the oil leak appears to be getting worse. I'm going to work on it this week and hopefully get that resolved. There is another Superlap this weekend, but I don't think I'll make it because want to spend some time at home, and don't want to rush working on the car either. I will likely sign up for an HPDE sometime next month or go to Pueblo though, we shall see.
