Well I broke the rear subframe, and I just moved. I don't think cracking 200 is going to happen this year for me. I already missed Miatas at Laguna Seca which I've been wanting to do for years now. Just gotta hit it hard in 2019!
You are correct, and with no additional bracing to the subframe that didn't help the cause either. So I got a another subframe, Im going to remake the mounts and spend some time supporting the subframe with some triangulation gussets. V2 will be much better
I think you just needed more weld area. Its because you welded to such thin metal. More bracing would help but so would using angle to connect to the subframe there with a leg of the angle going up the front of the sub frame.
The quest for 200 mph in the half continues. Went 175 on Sunday, I ended up winning the RWD Unlimited class, the other car in the finals went out for one more hit before the finals and hurt the motor. So I took the win by default, but a W is a W lol. it was a little rowdy with no aero on the back of the car. So over the winter it’s time to get serious about this next attempt. Drag wing, parachute, proper drag slicks, electric boost control, and a few other things.
The car car made a little over 700 to the wheels at 23 psi in 3rd gear at 7100 rpm. Not bad for a completely 100% stock 4.8/5.3 junk yard motor (I don’t know what it is, never pulled the heads to measure the bore).
My dad and I are going to put some valve springs, roller rockers, roller cam, and roller lifters to try and get some more rpm out of it. I think it’s going to take another 1000 rpm to hit the target mph.
You made 700hp on stock valve Springs? I thought everyone upgraded them before that because of valve float.
Your going solid roller for the better rpm? Or just hydraulic roller?
Yes, the only thing done to the engine is a Melling high volume oil pump and an OE timing chain kit. Oh and the stock Ls1 intake and throttle body. Oddly enough the motor is making around 85-90 psi of oil pressure. The pump is a stand pressure shim, high volume so I don’t know why it is producing so much pressure. But my dad is thinking it’s pumping up the lifters and hanging them open. So we are gonna try a solid roller set up and see what happens. I also need to upgrade from the d585 coils. The tuner said those aren’t putting out enough spark past 23 psi. We did try turning it up but it just wouldn’t light the fuel
Something as simple as the KG Works spoiler did a great job of settling the *** end of my car at a hundred and fifty miles an hour on Daytona. Perhaps that would be enough. It may even be more effective at your higher speeds.
Some of you follow me on social media so you may have already seen the pictures. But just a small update. Holley Smart Coils installed, new plug wire routing, Comp cams valve springs, push rods, and caged needle bearing upgraded trunnions. Also made a little puke tank for the surge tank so it would stop pulling in air into the system when the car cools off. Parachute will be here in a couple weeks, once that shows up I’ll get that mounted up and find somewhere to do some test hits
