A friend suggested that I unplug the wastegate and set a boost cutoff at 170-180 kpa. Then do 1 recorded pull. This should be the max attainable spool. Tune PID to get in that ballpark. I know my boost cutoff works well because the overboost kicked in a few times when EBC tried to go over 12psi.
Any other advice. I think aidan had a good thread on getting things in the ballpark with repeated runs. I have a spot I could probably get to late at night in order to get 5-10 pulls in, but I don't know when I'll be able to get to it with since i start up with early hours again on monday. I have that thread saved. Going to go back and read it again.
I may try having it hold 10 psi to redline for now. I'm going to try to get spool issues sorted out before upping things to 12. That seems like the smart thing to do. Apologies in advance to my loyal fans that were expecting the opposite.

Don't ramp up at the beginning. Just pick a target and hold it until 7k and you will have max spyool. And you'll see any fall off due to breathing restrictions in the top end that way. Then you can add an elbow above 6k if you want to avoid drop off like the cool kids are saying.

As Todd would say...
"No *****"
Nah. Learning is part of the fun. Car is running well right now even if spool is slow. I need to mess with sensitivity and PID.
Till then it essentially drives like an NA car given the solid torque curve and linear power increase. I could just change the wg spring, but...why..?

I think EBC tuning is going pretty well. Following was at a target of 10 PSI, but it seems like things went up to about 11 PSI (IT GOES TO 11!) before petering out back to 10. I'll attach logs here as well in case anyone has any input (plz?).
I have target boost tapering down at 7k, though I'm not sure how necessary this is. Car honestly drives super well. Kinda tempted to set target up for 12 and see how that goes.
VD car weight is set to 2400 right now with my weight at 175. I think 2400 might be a bit low for an NB1 with a roll bar, 40-50lb tool kit, and spare tire in the trunk.
I guess this is how the sickness starts.... Car feels 'normal'. I feel like it felt faster on wastegate which was ~170-180 HP. I'm guessing it's a function of how boost is ramping up.
Thanks for helping me set up the EBC and getting the vac 'circuits' sorted out!
Of note: This is still running the spark map on brain's basemap. I haven't messed with it at all for obvious reasons.

That was actually my first thought as well haha. The ramp up is gradual and drives super well. It was a blast on the highway yesterday. I had torque everywhere.
I think it's acting this way because the sensitivity on the ebc is set too low so it's not trying to sprint to the target.
Not going to lie... I don't hate it. But I'll fix it.

Put over 200 miles on the car this weekend driving to Boston and back with a trip to the beach thrown in for good measure.
I'm incredibly happy with it right now. It's a fantastic car on road trips, can get out of its own way on the highway, is pretty nimble and responsive, and brings a smile to my face.
I really have to figure out the exhaust loudness issue though!
I'm hoping to make it down to ADSI for autocross sometime in the near future. I just have a few things that I think I should figure out first. I'm hopeful though!

I think the akbar remark was related to the interweb meme where people have dubbed in a guy yelling that before all sorts of explosions including car engines and other things. He was saying blow up your engine in a blaze of glory.
Torque below 4K? Who needs that? If I'm at wot below 4K then it just means I was too lazy to downshift.

80 on the highway with a 5 speed and 4.3 is over 4k. No reason to be below there haha. 150 rwtq isn't too bad either.
In any event, this makes me nervous to swap in the 6 speed... I really need a 3.9 haha. I guess figuring out the exhaust noise issue would help too. Revs aren't an issue if there's no drone.

Hahaha CDM hush. Mine is no where near that bad.
Though I do probably have a boost leak. I think my BOV may have some and I had to move the intercooler piping on the cold side to put in the pre tb boost source for the ebc so that might have moved things enough to have a little leak.
My EBC tuning is terrible right now. PID needs to be configured and sensitivity is too low. I had sens at like 500 at the start and I'd be over boosting before my foot hit the floor.
I'll get to it. Things are working well and I'm lazy.

Oh no, my favorite part of this thread is gone. The related thread used to always show up in my browser as SoCal girl or something. It was so appropriate, made me laugh every time.
Oh well.
Oh well.

Don't be mad, just razzin' ya.
It's true I do have a chip on my shoulder about BUSM and modern academia. They never hurt me, upper level BUSM are just crooked and unethical. I know because I used to hang out with a bunch of them, like you hang out with Subaru mechanics. I also see that modern academia is full of administrators, just trying to keep themselves employed by selling degrees and treating students like cash cow customers. You don't see this because you are a student and they hide it from most people(especially students.)
You know very little about me too. I don't wish to make you mad Rish, just my opinion about modern academia. We still love and respect you for being part of our community
But again, enough jamming this thread. We can have this discussion in your build thread.
You're making a pretty big jump between modern day academia (i.e. the diploma mill) and the academics therein. The difference between medical academics and basic science academics is that when we **** things up we can hurt and kill people. A lot of scientists and doctors and undergrads and just about everyone feels that universities and academia in general has too much bloat. Part of that is driven by over regulation and part of that is driven by over litigation. Atleast that's in medicine. In the university setting, I think it's total bullshit that there are professors that are working part time at multiple institutions to make ends meet while said institutions each have 20 administrators pushing paper and getting good salaries and full benefits. It's a pretty fucked up mismatch in priorities.
-Make sure boost cut was set up for 12 psi
-Disconnect wg line
-Do a 4th gear pull starting at ~2k rpm
Started at TPS of 3.2, psi -12.2 and 1687 rpm.
0 PSI : 1771 RPM at TPS 38.3
1 PSI : 1886 RPM at TPS 100 (first reading at 100 TPS)
2 PSI : 2105 RPM
3 PSI : 2174 RPM
4 PSI : 2370 RPM
5 PSI : 2551 RPM
6 PSI : 2742 RPM
7 PSI : 2883 RPM
8 PSI : 3005 RPM
9 PSI : 3102 RPM
10 PSI : 3200 RPM
11 PSI : 3253 RPM
12 PSI : 3349 RPM
/Boost cut @ 12
The other run started at 1880 and hit 12.5 psi at 3353 RPM before hitting cut. I can post the numbers for this run too, but I started at a TPS of about 25 or so (trying to get to keep at 2k rpm) so I didn't know if that made it flawed. Attaching logs for both here.
So it looks like my shitty torque and spool stuff is from poorly tuned EBC which should surprise no one. As SOTH said, it requires 'patients' so I'm reading through a bunch of posts by aidan, brain, and dnamakison (and a few others like a thread started by miataman(?)) to set myself up to tune sensitivity and PID. It looks like I should be able to hit my 10PSI boost target much sooner once things are set up and I won't have sad torquezzz below 4k.
