Yeah I had some at home too, but my friend said he'd never used it before and there wasn't any residue there. The gasket was metal though. Worth getting the metal gasket from the dealership to make damn sure it doesn't leak? I can throw some rtv there too to make damn sure. I don't want to mess with this again for another 100k miles haha.

On the water pump inlet? I'd never use a metal gasket there. Spend $2 on a new paper one and smear a thin coat of rtv on both sides. Make sure that both metal surfaces are clean and smooth.

If the reason this didn't work is lack of sealant, I'm going to be sad lol. It wasn't a drop of coolant. It just started to come out as it went in through the radiator and hit the block.

The California crew seems to be forgetting what the next few months will be like around here. Buy something decent and all weather. Put them on whatever you have. Turn the boost way the hell down. My NC will barely get out of our work parking lot at stock horsepower during the winter with summers on. Then when it's sunny and you've saved for what will surely feel like an interminable time but is really only winter, you buy stickier. Or don't drive it for a while, and save until you have to. Also, if you're debating this, 9's may not fit the more budget appropriate rubber, and you may go through several sets with this thing.
Also, let me know if you ever need a hand.

Always up for company and help. I'm pretty new to this so I want mostly assisting today. I'm going to try redoing things now that I sort of know what's going on.
Are you in beantown? I lived in Somerville for 5 years after college when I worked at mgh. I miss that area.

And my friend left his tools here for me. Hoping to try to get this done over the next day or so or atleast get it taken apart to the point where it'll take the two of us 3 hours to get it all back together.

My inlet's face had minor casting voids and irregularities. Metal seals only touch a fraction of the surface of the face but paper gaskets cover its entire width. They have a much better chance of generating a positive seal.

They had a separate water pump sealant, but when I googled rtv for water pump etc, I just got loads of recs for permatex ultra grey.

Haha, seriously? They all would have been fine?
I have a different kind of RTV, but my friend that's helping didn't like it. I think when people use the same stuff for long enough and see that it works, they're hesitant to use anything else.
I'm going to take off the WP in a few hours and try getting things mostly back together. Friend will help and give it a final once over on sunday and then hopefully she'll fire right up!
Thanks again! Hope you and yours are enjoying the holidays.
Oh gawd. People are subbing this? Yikes.

Haha, I don't think you understand how stressed I was when the coolant started pouring out all over the garage floor. Especially since I have a pretty hard deadline of getting this thing running again before my housemates show up after break.

Unfortunately, I'm booked from tonight till sunday afternoon. I think Chris is coming over in a couple of hours so I'm going to get back to taking the thing apart. Hopefully we can get it together in a couple of hours. We just did this the other day so it should hopefully be faster than the first time!
Message me your number! I'll reach out that way for the future.
