And while I respect your experience, my blower doesn't exactly have the same range of adjustment. I suspect getting this thing to not abuse belts is going to be an iterative process
It's really not that difficult to use a Dayco 89269 auto tensioner in favor of the current static tensioners.
All you need is a stout backing plate and proper standoffs to attach it to the bracketry and the SC.
Reporting back. Had to put the roof up, but it slips easily past the back of the harness bar. Thanks for that tip. The screws, surprisingly, came out no problem.

Yep, this is an option however I was actually referring to the range of motion available to adjust the position of the blower as opposed to the range of motion available to adjust the belt. Someone got a MIG welder and a quart of moonshine in exchange for a night with his sister and decided to "fix" my blower mounting bracket before it got to me. See post #231 for extensive description of the issue.
I'm not opposed to any sort of auto tensioner and mounting plate project in the future, but for now I need this thing installed per the instructions as part of my effort to get it through an emissions inspection. I'll have a lot more info about that in the months to come.

Glad to help! Feels good to know my ramblings and insanity are helping someone out there

Which pump are you going to install?
Just finished getting a walbro 190hp in there. We will see if I can put up with the noise. If not, it will go in my friend's who has a 3" non muffled turbo back. Won't hear it in that car anyway.
The cheap gasket fit perfect, btw. All the holes line up no problem.

Sweet. Thanks for the follow-up, ordered one using your link
Glad I could help in return! Now I have to go deal with my own stupud decision today of impulse buying a 1981 Alfa Spider that was down the road for $500... It drove home at least? Already has electrical problems....
Fun thread, just read through the whole thing. Reminds me of why I used to hang out here all of the time. It pains me that I threw away at least half of the OEM parts that you had to buy after I got divorced. I just didn't have room for everything. Anyway, I love the overinvestment of time into a turd. Something I know a lot about!

Thanks! I think? Heh. Saab thread is awesome, so much stuff I know nothing about shown in great detail with solid commentary, all those cats were deserved. I really appreciate long format build threads filled with excruciating detail and flawed logic rather than the tiny snippets and highlights you get from a platform like the Instantgrahams, or the clickbatey headline bullshit you mostly (but not always) get on YouTube. The general public has no time for details anymore, they want car content like they want news, just headlines. Nobody seems to care about nuance or detail anymore so its a race to the bottom. Well, maybe not everyone. We are all still here apparently.
For example, I've been watching this guy Ronald Finger on Youtube (yes, I think that's actually his real name) doing a restoration series on, of all things, a 1985 Pontiac Fiero 2M4. The car was heinous but he's really put in the effort polishing this turd. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing, and that's fine, because he's learning as he goes, shares his mistakes, and we all get to learn along with him. Production quality is pretty high and the content is good. If that series was a build thread I'd read the **** out of it. I think it was around part 10 of the series he made a video where he apologized that he wasn't done yet, because apparently he had said somewhere in the begging that it would be a 10 part series and there were people in the comments that were butt-hurt about it. Are you ******* kidding me? Let the dude work at his own pace, he's not a dancing monkey.
</soapbox>
Anyway, @Stein are you going to be spending more time with us going forward? Perhaps something Miata based? Hell, even if its not a Miata we've got some active build threads here for not Miata stuff.

I made a couple of slight alterations to the hardtop this weekend in an attempt to get a little better fitment.
Before you all get your collective panties in a bunch, let me show you exactly how badly this thing is fucked:
I have no qualms about making small fitment alterations to this top for this chassis.
First order of business was to wipe up some of the "snow" from the tint that was dissolving off the back glass. Every time I open the window I get a face full of this plastic, its like driving a damn snow globe.
Then out came the "never the right tool for the job" Dremel with the carbide cutter for a little trim
I tried to blend it as best as I could, then test fit to see if it helped.
Pretty not terrible if I do say so myself! The rear hard top rubber gasket above the trunk is actually in contact with the tub now, woohoo! It did close up the window gap a bit, but its not completely sealed. I think if I want to get it "closer" I'm going to need to remove about 1/4" of rubber from the big square-ish "cushions" that are part of the window seal, as shown in the pic directly before the above. Anyway, this is a significant improvement as it sits now. I'll go ahead and touch it up with a little of my leftover "PZ" paint and it'll be good to go.
