Someone other than Aidan.

18psi 03-27-2017 05:34 PM

They're fine.
Bathe them in some gasoline for peace of mind if you want.

codrus 03-27-2017 05:39 PM

Bathe them in the blood of your... Wait, no, that's for the other kind of injector.

They're fine.

"Just blow it"

EO2K 05-22-2017 12:22 PM

Guys! Guys! I DID A THING!

Valve stem seals from 949. Supermiata Valve Seal Miata

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...1948c57e59.jpg
Seeing as they are supposed to be the same for intake and exhaust, I was surprised that they looked different. Probably different production batches or something. I put the vanilla ones on cylinders 1-2 and the chocolate ones on cylinders 3-4. For science.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...94a349febd.jpg
Wife's car provided required straw for installation.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...9dc8d5f3b7.jpg
Then I got this thing out of my garage.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...49327e3516.jpg
...and I jammed it in my engine and hit it with a hammer. (not even joking)

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...b23d679953.jpg
Some times I hit things too hard.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ac7d7f1ee8.jpg
And I replaced my stupid valve stem seals. Yay!

This was my least favorite thing. Its a fairly sizable divot near the middle of my lifter. The cam looks perfect. I'll see if I can get a pic with better lighting tomorrow. I suspect FOD, probably from garbage floating around inside the motor during breakin. I guess when you squeeze a piece of metal between a hardened shim and an even harder cam lobe, something is gonna give. The good news is that I can flip the shim and keep on keeping on. Aidandj recommended (and rightly so) that I should probably hit that face with a superfine diamond hone to knock down possible high spots, and I agree.

Feels good to move forward. :likecat:

Only 2 more years until it's re-assembled and we will find out if that fixes the smoking issue.

:likecat:

I deny nothing.

I balked on the turbo reinstll because I didn't have the parts to refuxor the fuel system the way I wanted, so its going to sit for a bit longer.

I'm also about to order a buttload of things I'll have to figure out how to mount, like an oil cooler. I think we all know how that's going to go

icantlearn 05-22-2017 12:54 PM

You should like....make sure it works... then come to Laguna on the 8th with me so we can have many funs.

aidandj 05-22-2017 12:55 PM

LOL. G won't have even looked at his car by the 8th.

icantlearn 05-22-2017 01:02 PM

I tried.

EO2K 05-22-2017 01:03 PM

I have to walk past it to get to the garage where the washer and dryer live. If I want clean underwear, I'm not going to have much of a choice :giggle:

8th is what, HoD?

18psi 05-22-2017 01:12 PM

And here I was wondering why you never wear underwear

EO2K 05-22-2017 01:15 PM

I have to wear underwear! My wife writes my name in them so I don't forget who I am.

codrus 05-22-2017 01:15 PM

HoD is Friday. 6/8 is SpeedSF.

why do half your valve seals look like they're covered with the burnt plastic gunk that accumulates on a 3d printer nozzle?

You ask these questions like you expect me to have answers.

codrus 05-22-2017 07:05 PM

It's a proprietary low-friction coating from 949.
