Miatamania's Recently Singled so F It Longterm Build Thread
Like the title states, just got out of a 5 year and like 7 month relationship with a girl I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with...pretty much selling off most of my stuff, living with roommates, selling the 92 to pay of my CC and going to start working on my car again.
My 1990 has been sitting since I parted out the turbo kit which was well over a year ago, I figure it is about time to roll it outside and at least start working on it again. Estimated running is Winter 2011
History Lesson:
My college budget turbo setup:
MS1v3 Brainbuilt PnP
550cc Injectors
Greddy Manifold
TD04h-19t
Racing Mazda 2.5" DP, 2.5" Custom Exhaust
Ghetto FMIC
Pics:
And about August of 09 I parted it out to start a new build...and got caught up with life and trying to pay bills while living with the girl I dated through college...
She has sat like this for the past year or so at the shop, covered up:
The New Plans:
I had originally wanted to do a built VVT motor and decent sized turbo, but have been playing with the idea of a v8 miata for a while now. After sitting down and seriously considering the budget differences, I have committed to building a LSx powered car.
11/8/10
Car will be trailed up to the shop behind the house for a few weeks to complete the body work and begin to work on some fab work for the new project. My goal is to keep the car drivable on the street so I would prefer to keep a cage out of the car. I have been looking into seam welding the chassis and other chassis stiffening choices. The car will see a good amount of track time and will not be a daily driver.
The biggest issue I am having right now is picking a color, once I get it painted everything else wont be that hard.

Car will retain lights...radio. Everything else will be as minimalist as possible I think. We've done a few ground up wiring jobs at the shop so I'll cull the LS ecu harness as low as possible and get rid of most of the BS stuff from the miata.
Body work is the biggest hang up, unfortunately I'm not a good painter and even with good prices it isn't pretty.
I will post up some updated pictures and a semi-solid plan in the next few weeks. Probably going to do some minor bracing and seam welding to try and stiffen the chassis without having to add a cage immediately, I really do not want one in this car. I figure a bare shell is as good a place as any to start with a project like this. Look forward to a rather large FS ad in the near future.
