Default MiataGarage's Build Thread

Hey I'm from Germany and new to the Forum
I'm into Miatas since 5 years now and having my own Shop in Germany for used Miata Parts and Cars.

First a bit of History:
Last Year i had a Customer who had a Turbo Nb Miata with lots of Parts ,but the Car was not running properly and he has spend lots of money and time into it,so he finally has had enough .
The Car was build by a Shop in Germany (all in all 3 Shops tried it over the last years )
His proposal was :
I get all the Parts when i build it back to stock with well preserved stock Parts .
So i did it .........

Parts that i got from him :

Build Engine (15k Miles):
K1 Rods
Gtr Pistons

6 Speed Transmission

Hgp Turbo Manifold (German Brand )
Gt2560r Turbo
Hgp Intercooler/piping
Setrab Oilcooler
FlyinMiata Downpipe 3"
Flyinmiata Cat
Flyinmiata Catback 3"
K-Sport Coilovers (Special autocross edition)
K-Sport 6Pistons Big Brake Kit
Innovate Wideband

The Headgasket has gone because of the shitty Mapping with stock ecu , a auxilary heater with kinked hoses ,no coolant reroute and the old stock radiator....no wonder

I bought a white 1990 1.6 Miata for this Project :

Pros:
It was repainted a few years ago
It doesn't has many Rust

Cons :
Technically it isn't in the best condition but that doesn't really matter
Engine is burning oil
Manual Steering is broken
Suspension Components are broken
Electric Installation is "creative "
The Interior is "tuned"
It has had more then ten previous Owners

The first Thing i've done today is disassemble the Front and Rear Subframes for Powercoating and rebuild with Pu Bushings (949 Racing)

The Subframes are frome a Nb Model

They don't have many rust and are in good overall Condition

The Differential you see there is a 3.6 Torsen 2 Lsd and will be swaped in as well

First Thing i did today was to finish the Subframes that i can give them to the Powercoater
The Hubs and Wheel Bearings will come from an Na later

Next Thing i did was stripping the Interior because the Carpet ,Dash and almost every other Part had Scratches ,was horrible painted or broken.
Electronic installation was just as bad
Many Cables led to Nowhere.
I'm swapping in a complete 94 1.8 Harness in it and fix the other Stuff

The Rear became a black Panel and a Kg Works Spoiler which will be painted black and mounted with rivets
The old Taillights had scratches too so i changed them

Today i carried on stripping the Miata.....

First the Rest of the Interior :

Then the Engine , Tranny ,the old harness , and everything else in the engine bay went out :

Somebody has an idea what to do with the sideskirts ?
On one side i like them for making the body wider, on the other they have a little ricey touch.....
The next Thing is ,there is the typical rust under them ,so i must remove them whether i like it or not .
That means fenders must be painted

Hi! I'm from Germany near Frankfurt, too! I live in Hofheim. Will be watching this build, the chance to see this one in person is a lot higher than most of the others here

Some new Parts arrived :

Stiffer Motor Mounts
71C° Thermostat
Cometics Head Gasket
New Valve Gasket
Used Gtr Valve Cover (very rare here )

So i decided to take the engine apart to do the Hg job and stuff
The Head will be machined down next week ,because of the shitty Cr Ratio of the Gtr Pistons.
I don't know the exact Cr Ratio ,some say 7,8:1 ,some 8,2:1 !?
The Pistons are from a Mazda 323 Bg Gtr (familia in the US i think )

I definetly need a new Camera

I'm swapping in the complete Harness of a 1994 1.8 Na like i said ,so the Camshafts ,all sensors etc. will come from an 1.8 Na
I'm going with a Ms pnp3 ecu wise.
The biggest problem in this Build will be ******* german Tüv

What do you Guys think about a water/air intercooler in the Engine Bay ?
Apart from the Complexity of such a Setup it should only have benefits i think.....
As i said the Nb Turboconversion was originally a complete HGP Kit with a gt2554 Turbo
The only Thing changed is the Gt2560r now
It has a tiny fmic intercooler wich isn't PnP in an Na Modell...so i'm thinking about a Upgrade .
The Radiator will be a Mishimoto 3 Row with a shroud and 2 Fans

Someone will be along shortly to convince you not to go water/air intercooler. I will say though that you shouldn't do it. There are plenty of good affordable intercoolers that will be a better choice.

What are you doing for engine management? What are the laws in Germany in regards to aftermarket engine management?
