it allows you to make better use of the power, in the sense of sustained acceleration without shifting.
On my car at 230 whp a 3.9 would be preferred. On my car at 300 whp the 3.6 is very much appreciated.

Huh. So staying in a gear longer makes you want to drive crazy? I'm dumb, I don't see the connection. How does 9% slower acceleration mean LESS crazy driving?
I can shift, without ffs in under .2 seconds (with ffs consistent .12 seconds IIRC), if anything, I am more excited to grab the next gear, and speed more with shorter gears. I'm just trying to figure out how the opposite is true for other people.
thanks guys.

No. If you have a lot of power and not much weight, taller gearing allows you to feel the uninterrupted pull longer. 300 whp with a 6-speed and 4.1 rear was silly because it was BOOST shift BOOST shift BOOST shift and done. Witha 3.6 rear it's like BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST shift BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST *illegal* *ohshit* *i'mgoingreallyfastnow*

Now that I've gotten back up off the floor and stopped laughing . This is the perfect description of the driving experience in my car. Perfectly stated thank you. Fred B

If you've got lots of horsepower in a really light car, first and second gear are essentially useless. The Catfish with a 4.1 or 4.3 makes first and second gear a herky jerky mess. It's like riding a hobby horse. The tall 3.63 or 3.9 gears makes for smoother power delivery and lower gears that are usable. The speed sneaks up on you with the taller gears, especially since my speedometer isn't calibrated. 80 on the speedo is actually about 90, but it feels like 70.

So this just happened. We'll be testing on the House Cat, along with the fuel pressure regulator that you see in the other post. What do you think--is there a market?

Thanks! We're not rushing this build, so we have time to add stuff as the budget allows. The two side panels are aluminum, so no issues with rust. Those aluminum plates would be really easy to splash in carbon fiber. That would look okay, right?

Updates--no updates. Whiskers (Catfish #1) and Julien's Cat went down to Qualcomm Stadium on Friday for a little autocross action. I think Julien will be putting up a video soon. We stopped for burgers on the way back to the shop and a homeless dude got a little miffed that I wouldn't buy him a burger. He really got on my nerves--I've had enough of these guys sitting down next to women in order scare them and then shake them down for money. So I told him to get the F*ck out. He didn't take kindly, and after telling me he was going to kick my ***, he spit on me. I ended up getting in a fight for the first time since high school. Ended up knocking him down (no punches thrown, that I remember), and dragging him out of the restaurant. CRAZY adrenaline. So that's my House Cat update.
Oh, and one of the reasons why we haven't been working on the House Cat is that we're working on the bodywork for the CFR (race) bodywork. I hate to show you anything because none of the molds are completely done. But suffice it so say that I'm very excited.
