Default Growing Pains- A Youths Build Thread

Alright, so I'll preface this all with the fact that I am still learning, and have been lurking the forums for quite some time. The car is a 2000 nb1 with the popular equipment package, so a windbreaker, power mirrors and 4.3 torsen. I bought the car as my first almost 2 years ago when I was still 16. Yes, I'm THAT young still, but I have 3 years of automotive classes through a sort of special high school program, and have build this from pretty much the ground up. Of course it looks like it cut off a part of the picture... I'm obviously still new to this...

So while I do have some experience with working on cars, none of it was quite like the Miata project was.

The Current Setup: 225whp/215wtq

Engine/Drivetrain:

TacoTaco manifold

gt2560 with a JDS billet wheel/center section @12.5 lbs

Fm 2.5" downpipe

Custom 3" exhaust, 3" straight through muffler

BKR7e plugs

Cx intercooler

2.5" cold side IC piping, FM silicon hot side

Cx racing radiator

FM stage 1 clutch

5 speed (blown 1 up already mid 3rd gear pull...)

Walboro 190

Rx8 injectors

Suspension

Tein Street basis z coilovers... that I hate. First thing I bought, wish I skipped over, looking at going to MCS singles this winter/spring

Wheels

Soon after the car I bought some Konig Helium's with 205/50 Hankook ventus v2's... wheels far too narrow, tires not very good with power, or rain...

Now on some Konig Wideopen 15x8's with near dead Direzza zII's. The fit the car much better, and will be getting RE71R's here in a couple pay checks.

So that's the majority of the current deal. I am going back and fixing mesy/poorly done things from when I was still very new to it and just wanted the car going. Valve seals are dead from spark cut 2 step and no timing... I regret it but it was fun while it lasted.. that won't be a problem here soon though, as I have another build going on in the garage...

What's in the garage for this fall:

Built bottom end, Eagle rods, arp studs, cp 9:1 84mm pistons, boundary stage 1 pump, Supermiata damper

Bp4w: Supertech +1mm valves, felpro seals, Supertech valve springs, stock cams, though I have an extra exhaust cam and am debating doing an exintake swap.

The Other Plan…

The current plan is to go with a TSE efr 6758, figure out the nb fuel system, not totally sure where to go with it, don’t really want to cave on the FM setup, we will see. Ideas? Return style or swap for manifold referenced FPR? Then go with either a 6 speed or a BMW trans, which might get paired with a getrag (3.63’s and install are spendy). I just don’t want to deal with another blown up transmission if I can avoid it.

I also plan to put my double diagonal bar in, with sparco sprints and schroth 4 point harnesses. I know there’s more I had in here, but it all got deleted and I’m writing this all again.. LOL

My big limiter (I’m assuming) will be fuel. Because it’s driven often, and e85 isn’t near me much, I am considering a methanol injection setup after the 92 tune. Either that or a kill mode C10 tune.. Undecided, but that can wait. Hoping to see 330+ whp on 92, but the dyno will be what speaks the answer, I won’t be heartbroken if it's not quite there.

So, that’s where we stand. I’m still young and learning, I’ll ask dumb questions but also do my best to figure everything out. I'll try to add some photos.. We’ll see how it goes LOL
