Default Freyer79's Frankenstein (Efr 7163 Fab9 sidemount)

Hello to everyone, I've been a long time quiet lurker slowly gathering info and knowledge for my build. I originally got this car from my father which was our very first project var we worked on together. After many different ways my build has gone I finally decided on a pretty crazy turbo setup. Back when it was running it was my daily driver and was modded lightly. I started with doing all the suspension bushings, coilovers, sway bars, and some 15x8 Konig flatouts with some decent Hankook rubber. Fast forward a bit I got a fuill 94 1.8 motor, trans, and torsen. Swapped that in and have enjoyed the car ever since. Fast forward one more and someone ends up hitting the front end of me and crushed the front core support in. And now we are at present time with a missing front end and sitting in a great fab shop (tubeframe front end)

For my ecu i'm leaning towards AEM EMS 4. and with that I'm looking for some serious help with sensors and wiring. 94 block, 99 head, 92 body. I suspect ill have to go from scratch and this is where I'm hung up. Also this is just a fun street build not a dedicated track car just something the does a bit of everything.
Here's some more of my favorite pics

You don't have to go from scratch at all for wiring. Start reading a lot. You will need an ecu for the body, so you want a 92 ecu. Preferably a megasquirt if you want help on this forum. If you get an aem you will probably be on your own, or find a tuner to pay.

This'll be good. Amazing how much you've got done for such little active poking on the forum. Welcome and looking forward to numbers

And if you must, get it through Trackspeed where you just might be able to get a basemap compared to other vendors.

Edit: nevermind, it looks like megasquirt has taken over on their site

10/10 not disappointed with MS3x

I do already own a ms3 pnp from Rev but wasn't quite sure. Would I still use the cas or should I go over to a trigger wheel setup? I would like to go full sequential spark and fuel.

If you want sequential, switch to cam/crank sensors.

Stock 1.6L/1.8L CAS:
black w/ light green stripe = Ground
white w/ red stripe = +12V
white = crank signal
yellow w/ blue stripe = cam signal

on the BP4W Crank Sensor:
White w/red stripe = +12v
Black w/blue stripe = ground
Grey w/ Red = Crank signal

on BP4W Cam Sensor:
White w/red stripe = +12v
Black w/blue stripe = ground
Grey w/ Blue = Cam signal

essentially split the power and ground from the stock CAS and wire it into the respective white/red and black wires on the BP4W sensors, then just hook up

At this time, you can run a 36-2 trigger wheel on a Supermiata damper if you want better resolution

If you don't already have the pigtails, you can order them off Ballenger or source one from a partout. PM me if you need more help. I don't want to clutter your thread but I've done this enough times.

You should make a new thread with this information and the correct Ballenger part numbers. Would be good centralized info. Maybe even sticky it

End goal will be just north of 500. My main concern is the durability of the drive line.

My thread predates the VVT swap thread by 4 months, sadly no one bothered offering answers so I learned the hard way

I used the following from Ballenger:

Cam sensor pigtail

Crank sensor pigtail

YAY for another EFR7163/ e85 build

If e85, why not high compression pistons?

When I started with this build the original plan was a 6258 and 93. Should I consider exchanging and go higher or compensate with more boost?

If this is regularly seeing or living purely on e85, you can live with higher compression.

Luckily I have an E85 pump 10 from my house. So very doable for e85. Long trips it will be trailered anyways. So probably the wiseco 10.5:1. Another issue I just thought of is with my ms3 only has a 2 bar map (21psi) I believe I will be north of that with e85 and possible power goals.

I was talking to the OP about buying his MS off him before I realized that it was the wrong model for my car.

I tried to convince him to start a thread here and keep the MS. Looks like he's gonna do it.

This is going to be a fun build to watch!
