no "in process" pictures?! That is cheating. Is that fresh powder or brand new control arms?
The front lower and uppers are brand new (MOOG). The rest are wire wheeled/cleaned/repainted. I've yet to get them on, since I have had track events and a time attack coming up this weekend. I should be able to get them on sometime in the next month before event #2 though! Looking forward to it, it's going to go together with slightly stiffer front springs (550# instead of 450#). slightly adjusted ride heights, and slightly more aggressive alignment settings.
And sorry for the terrible pics, but I re-did my ducting. It's super solid and awesome now:
The ducting basically consists of a plastic mixing tub from Home Depot racing, which seals the mount tightly to the radiator. Then an OEM undertray, trimmed for IC piping, which seals the engine bay compartment and sides. Then I added some extra flaps on the sides to fully seal the mouth. And some self tappers and aluminum tape. I'm super stoked with it, and it actually is designed in a way that I can R & R it pretty easily.
And this weekend, the first points event in the series. My first time on RT660s and they are fast, I really like them. Also back on the 6uls after getting one fixed (i bought it bent). The day started off strong with a new PB and track record for this series.
Then.. I flew too close to the sun. Really just fucked up and ended up carrying too much speed in, pushing off the track into a tirewall. Fortunately most of the damage is cosmetic, though I definitely have a slightly bent tie rod.. I ended up hammering out the fender and doing a string alignment in the parking lot so that I could make the 140mi drive home.
To the other people on the forum: 1:30.0x is FAST! This track is unforgiving and anything under 1:34 starts to get scary quick.
I always wanted to get under 1:30 and was 2 seconds off back when I drove for purposes other than shuttling children.
Which turn got you? I think I have nearly identical damage pictures floating around. Glad you were able to make it home. You can always PM if you get in a super tight spot
bummer man…though it looks like you probably got away with one?
Still impressed with how much you’re using this car. A lot of people build them then get bored or it’s a garage queen.
congrats on the track record!
It looks like I got away with this one, no damage under the fender, even the stock mounting tabs for the fender somehow came out unscathed. I even have a fender for this thing already sitting in my shed, it's had a crease in that drivers side fender forever now. Other than the cosmetic damage I think it's just a bent tie rod, but I'll know more this weekend. I've got an entire set of refreshed control arms with supermiata bushings that I'm going to put on the car as well at the same time. My 6uls got some scuffs on them, but they seem to be straight, so that's a win.
And thanks, I really appreciate that. I find that i get the most enjoyment out of it using it and tracking it. I'd rather use it, have something like this happen, and fix it than let it sit.

Hey, thanks for chiming in! SM record is 1:33.x IIRC, which might give some perspective for others. It was turn 5, before the hairpin, I was working on keeping more speed through there, and stayed in the throttle a hair too long and that's all it took. That turn is cambered so it was pretty scary basically jumping off the edge into the sand pit and tire wall.
I really feel like an idiot for doing it, but that's the game we play on the track I suppose. About a thousand ways I could have avoided that in hindsight but it happened so quick. Really eye opening to be honest, but I can't wait to get back. I'm just getting good enough at track driving to realize that I've got a lot to work on. My braking zones are getting better, trail braking properly is a bitch but I'm working on it, and my line choice is getting better (but still bites me from time to time). This was an interesting one, it reminded me of sim racing when you take a corner faster and the additional speed and change of line through that last corner piles up on you and all the sudden you are entering the next corner all wrong and too fast.
And thanks for the offer! I have a AAA so they would come tow me home if I really needed. I really wanted to drive the car home after that for some reason. My other buddy from Taos and I are the only ones who actually travel further than about 20 miles to get there, and even then many of the others trailer their cars.
Mine understeered into the other tire wall, but yeah, same spot! An unforgiving bastard of a corner that encourages high speeds. A corner that you don't even usually think about until it kicks your ***. I just went into it slightly too hot on a slightly different line than usual and it all added up and I flew off the track.
My car has bee super balanced recently. I'm still on the 450f/300r rates, but I've ditched the FM rear sway and went with the smaller supermiata unit. I'm running that along with a FM front, which gives me a decent FRC (the snap oversteer with the bigger FM rear bar was atrocious). Thinking about trying stiffer springs up front though to get closer to that magic 60% FRC. It's sitting at 57% now. With the stiff FM rear bar it was at 51% and the handling was scary on the fast stuff.
Thanks guys. Its a dream come true and a long time coming. The building is a bit of a project on its own and ill keep this thread updated as things progress. Its currently on a dirt floor, but a slab reinforced for a lift is part of the end goal. For now its shelter and a place to store and work on my cars/bikes. Very next step is wiring and lighting, maybe next month!
That all said I'd like to win the time attack series this year so car updates incoming soon.
