Welp, after a long, long process, the motor is finally back in the engine bay. I couldnt be happier with how it all turned out thus far. I will be in Germany for the next week starting tomorrow for Oktoberfest, so I wont be making much progress for a few. But all in all, this is a great point to be at right before my trip.

Got the DP pulled out and marked for where im going to need to dent it to clear the steering shaft. Also, does anyone know definitively what the size the studs are for the headlight to mount too?

TheBandit 09-27-2016 08:11 AM

Keep up the good work!

Incredible build!!

Thank you!

Do you happen to know the thread pattern for the studs that hold the headlight housings down on an NA? I need to rethread them because i neglected to tape them off when we painted :/

psyber_0ptix 09-27-2016 08:45 AM

probably a m6x1.0

I have all the taps you need for the car. If I have time to drop by next week, we'll clear em out.

Just to be clear, I am referring to the studs that the headlight mounts too, m6 seems awfully small for those.

Finally knocking out some of the wiring, Psyber came by last night to help knock out the wiring for the coils, the crank sensor and cam sensor are pretty much all thats left. I will be mounting the fuse box upside down to the cross rail under the dash that the glove box bolts too. It all sort of looks like a klusterfuk at the moment, but its getting there.

To-do list
-Entire fuel system
-Brake lines/ clutch line
-Over the radiator intercooler system
-Racepak IQ3 install

Yea drop mounts would only exacerbate the clearance issue with the downpipe. That guy was a fool for suggesting them.

Almost all of the wiring is complete for the engine bay with the exception of my injector harness, which is going to have to wait for the injectors. I will be chopping off the stock connectors and repinning connectors for the ID1000s (or 1300s if i decide to go that route). All that is really left is fuel system and intercooler. Getting close.

FM fuel rail came in! I was unaware of the spacers required to sit between the fuel rail and the head, so Psyber has shown me the way and will be bringing me some later this week. Also since I purchased "rail only" it did not come with the required hardware to mount the rail, so I simply went to ACE hardware and snagged some allan head hardware.

Looking good! I went with the same fuel rail on mine. The only downside is it's difficult to pull the VC off without scratching it due to the dual drilled design. :(

Thank you!! I hadnt really considered that, does simply loosening up the fuel rail give enough leway? I have already considered shaving that portion off lol

Calling all MD registered OBD1 Miatas-

Considering registering my Miata regularly, currently its registered historic and given the new usage laws for historic registered vehicles, id like to just avoid those issues all together and be able to drive the car whenever/ wherever I want too.

I spoke with the individuals at the VEIP station and was informed that for OBD1 testing two events occur, tail piper sniffer and gas cap check.
-Tail pipe sniffer I am not so worried about, i will fab up a interchangeable exhaust section with cats to pass the sniffer test.
-What I am curious about is, what takes place with the gas cap check, I assume they pressurize the system and insure the EVAP system functions correctly? If that takes place, given the fact ive completely removed all EVAP components, what could be done to "pass" (no i am not going to reinstall the entire EVAP system)

psyber_0ptix 10-28-2016 09:19 AM

It hey are just checking the cap. Don't worry about it until you have something to worry about
