Update.

I was cruising on the highway trying to tune some bugs out. All of a sudden I see my cruise AFR did to 12, wtf!? I then look at my dashboard, my aftermarket coolant gauge read 180*, and my stock temp gauge showed overheating-Motherfucker!!!!!!! :vash:

The aftermarket temp gauge is post t-stat, and given that I have double checked both temps reading before with my laptop, and there wasnt any discrepancy in the readings, my t-stat took a shit!.

Now this is just the tip of Iceberg ;), on the to the best part. The water in the system, is gone yo! Since there are no leaks and smoke was coming from he front, and side of the engine/block and not from the header hoses, the only conclusion I can derive is that my head gasket is done.

Comments?

Sorry man that sucks... if there is no water in the system and you drove it for any length of time that will not lead to good things. You really do have some shit luck.

Is all good, look on the bright side. Im learning a lot

Buffon, sorry to hear of your misfortunes. I'd consider taking a step back and making a detailed list of exactly what needs to be done. Assess any and all problems you have, along with anything in doubt, and anything which is still needing to get done.

Then slowly go over everything and redo anything needed. Proper planning and organization can go a long way.

Update. So I started taking things apart. The head is almost out; all that is left to do is get that fucking bolt under the exhaust header out.

The fist thing I took apart was the t-stat housing as I thought a failure caused the t-stat to shut close and prevent flow through the system. However, there was no fucking t-stat O_O This, along with bills previously found in the car detailing a radiator change, that the car had overheating problems before hand. Thus making my belief that my headgasket is fucked after the overheat I had a few weeks ago.

Anyway here are some pics of what Ive done. I was able to work much as the weather has been shit lately. Also Im going with the ebay wp/tb kit and an autozone headgasket, any recommendations and tips are welcome.

Abra cadabra ....NO T-STAT

Should be fine, but you might want to think about having that head hot tanked.

Why? where?

johnmatt 06-17-2010 09:11 AM

Cause it looks horrible. I'd hate to see what the rest of the motor looks like. Seafoam is your friend

See all that black? That's burnt oil. Take it to a head shop to have it cleaned. Maybe even new valve seals.

Yeah the problem now is finding a place that wont try to fuck me. What is the norm for "head refresh" jobs? what should it included?

johnmatt 06-17-2010 10:17 AM

While you're messing with it you can always do alittle P&P on it while it's off

No coin for that.I've looked at the hakuna valve seals write up, it doesnt seem so complicated, has anyone done a DIY job? what is there to it?
