Colton does dumb things
Been considering and getting a little more serious about sourcing some turbo parts, so I thought I'd start a build thread here to increase motivation. Considering selling my Honda Ruckus to fund a turbo and just get it done in one fell swoop.
Anyways, bought a 95 Montego Blue April 1st, 2012 which was stock for the most part. It had a crunched fender and some little outward QP dimples that are annoying still.
Day 1:
Day 2, or 5 or something:
Some time later I bought Fortune Auto 500's and a hardtop:
We went through our first winter together:
Picked up a cage for a steal:
Borrowed some wheels, got a seat, harness, wheel, QR, replaced passenger fender, and made a bikini top out of the old useless soft top.
Replaced transmission that was having a bad 2nd gear grind:
So it was time to have a little fun:
That's all I'll put in one post for now. Thanks for checking it out.

So here's more pictures of fun. One event was halloween bash, and I actually won free entry to my next event because I was one of very few who made an effort to dress the car up.
And if my decisions weren't bad enough already..
At this point not too much happened, the car went through a dark stage where I pulled the suspension to have it rebuilt, revalved, and resprung from 7k front/5k rear to 12k/10k so that took a while. My attention shifted from the car to a Ruckus that I traded my ninja for:
Next post will pretty much bring us up to date.

So after a few weeks of hard labor on the Ruck, I just rode it around and enjoyed it. The extra money allowed me to finally make a purchase for the miata:
Winter messed me pretty good:
But I fought back, got knuckles and a new front lip.
And designed some new endplates for the wing
So lets go drifting! Finally got the courage up to jump into the tandem trains, and had such a blast. Photo/video dump here:
And that brings us to now. Was an amazing drift day, would love just a few extra NA ponies to push it out on the last corner but I can't complain and I'm enjoying progressing as a driver before I bump the power up with a turbo. I'm open to all suggestions/criticism/whatever. Thanks for checking out the car, and I look forward to building up a turbo setup in the next year or two.

Pull up your pants, Colton. This isn't Compton.
I'm just glad you are enjoying yourself with your car and not hiding in your parents basement playing video games all the time. This is a constructive waste of your time and you will likely learn some useful things about cars, which is good.
Miatas make very poor drift cars because of their low polar moment of inertia. 240s and rx7s are much better suited to the task.

Yes, it is, but you should try to be nice about it. Perhaps pointing out that increasing rear traction is the purpose of a wing and drifting relies upon the lack of rear traction. So the wing would appear to the untrained eye to be an inappropriate addition. Perhaps that is one of the "dumb things" that Colton is alluding to in the thread title.
It does appear that he is enjoying himself and I don't lament that a bit.

I've noticed they're certainly not the best drift cars, but I am having a ton of fun learning how to keep up with some of the superior platforms.
Thanks dude
I have thought about it, as I've ridden in a supercharged Miata around my same track, and it definitely has the torque to hold out every corner. The only problem I have with superchargers is the lack of upgrade-ability and that is the reason I'll opt to spend the extra money on a turbo setup.

So last night I had one of my street tires delaminate and had to drive home the next 5 miles at 15mph while hearing a shred of tire slapping against the inner fender well the whole time like a proverbial gong letting me know what an idiot I am for not flipping my tires early enough.
Now I need two 15" tires.
Here's a photo to keep with the trend of my doing dumb things: aka drifting.
