For the record - that picture is the worst of the 4, not all threads were stripped.

Threads should be made to the spec, not wrench or hand tight. It's why they exist.
If that curly-cue is a piece of metal and, and it's not just a leftover chip from tapping/drilling that didn't get cleaned out of the hole, then there's something badly wrong. Studs should be tight, but they should not be self-machining.
Well this completely sucks. I'll probably start removing the studs when i get home tonight to see how bad the damage is. I find it very frustrating that this happened, considering i even waited a few days just to confirm with andrew something like this wouldn't happen.
Unlikely that it would happen to every single one of them though, right? He was using hand tools and not an impact here too it looks like so it's a bit harder to force things through if the threads aren't catching.

Okay, So here's what's going on. I picked up a tap (M8x1.25) and ran it through ONE of the manifold holes. I only did a few spins and that was enough to clean the threads up on there. I was able to put the other side of the stud cleanly through now. ( the side not stripped). They were not cross-threaded, I've done that before and this was not one of those cases. Did not use an impact, I've been using hand tools.
If i were to try to put the same clean stud into any of the other manifold bolt holes, they would strip, hands down. Its pretty much like this was tapped with a dull tap.
To me, and correct me if I'm wrong - this means the manifold was not tapped correctly, and i put too much pressure when installing the studs, After rechasing the threads - they are all threading in on both stud sides (even the stripped side, it was very little stripping that occurred.)
Also, my daily is probably ready this weekend and i have a-lot more free time now that i don't have a job again. This will most likely be put together very quickly once i receive the new studs I've had to order from TSE.$92.45 in case you're wondering.
Manifold is 347SS. Inconel is not magically strong, it just stays strong in high temps.
Depends on what the inconel has been through. And Andrew doesn't share which one he uses. But theres a good chance it isn't as hard as 347 SS.
Hm. It demolished my chineesium dies when I tried to clean up the threads on my used ones. OTOH, I guess they were used, so perhaps made harder by having been hot? Dunno. Metallurgy is hard.

Pulled Engine, Denubbed my 5 speed, 3.63 coming in. Decided to do some inspection on the rear diff job ( i dropped it off at a shop to get the job done since i didn't want to deal with the rust, when the car was running)
I have no words for this one, I bought brand new poly bushings and Miata mecca replacement diff mounts for the rear diff, proof somewhere in this thread. I see that the poly bushing in the diff carrier is installed, but not on the mecca mounts below it. Where did that go? Oh, where did that other bolt go too, There was two bolts here when i had my eye on it, why was this put together like this at a performance shop. I am trying to work it out with the shop, they said to bring it by when the car is up and running.
