Restrictor also restricts at all pressures low and high. This keeps a max pressure of 40psi.
So I understand the reasoning but wouldn't it also follow that if you are making too much oil pressure at higher rpms that you are also making more oil pressure at lower rpms and, therefore, a restrictor would not be starving the turbo of oil because there is more than a typical amount flowing through the line at all loads?
Example: turbo can handle a max of 60psi. You make 90psi at full load. The concern is that when you are idling and would normally be making 20psi of oil pressure that a restrictor is starving the turbo of oil. But if you are making 90psi at full load you should be making much more than 20psi at idle as well (say 30-40psi) so the restrictor is still not providing less oil than the engine would be seeing under normal oil pressures. I am asking to confirm my understanding of the reasoning here because this regulator is not only a much more expensive solution but it adds 3 more potential points of failure in the system which seems entirely too complex.
I would ask BW but I know exactly what they will tell me. They will say not to use a restrictor because it has one and that I need to solve the oil pressure issue. However, that is because they are unwilling to participate in an actual thought experiment because they don't want liability for anything. The manual says no restrictor so they will tell me no restrictor as a matter of course. I was thinking of trying a pop rivet restrictor first to see if the problem went away. The aftermarket restrictor is only sold in the UK and they want something retarded like 78 euro for shipping a single fitting. Their fitting uses a 1.6mm restrictor hole so I just need to find the appropriate size rivet for that to test.
Note to self: market terribly overpriced restrictors, but for less than BW sells.
The restrictor is aftermarket. The fitting itself is cheap. They just don't have an economically way to ship it apparently. I have no idea how shipping a fitting from the UK to the US could cost 78 euro.

because 1 cut at 15 degrees and three totaling 15 degrees are different and I would agree with your conclusions. alternatively each cut at 15 degrees totaling different numbers and I get the joke :P
