Small update. Went to Packwood for autocross this weekend. Borrowed some hoosiers.
The car is a ******* ROCKETSHIP. With hot hoosiers it hooks out of corners in 2nd at 16psi. And just takes off. Mind blowing speed. There was a slalom the first day that was fast enough for me to grab 3rd on the entrance, and then just haul *** through to the end. Hit 75mph at one point.
Car still smokes even with the new drain line. Guess I need to drill out the pan bung.
Hooked up the catch can to the intake. This is what it looked like after 200 miles and 20+ autox runs.
Not too shabby, I guess my rings are sealing ok?
Other issues:
Still get fuel starve. Need to deal with it.
Need to get a muffler in for the laguna pre mrls track day, well see if I can make it happen.
I've got 3 more plans to try and solve the smoking. If none of them work then the turbo will be sent off.
1. @hi_im_sean is making me a custom drill bit to drill out my oil drain to .591" (~.03" larger than the BW requirement). Its stubby and should fit between the rack and the pan. Will suck to drill.
2. @yank has a new Turbosmart Oil Pressure regulator (Oil Pressure Regulator (OPR) T40) that he is going to loan me for a test. Should keep the oil pressure constant at <40psi, instead of the 74psi im seeing at redline (above recommended, below max)
3. Ebay scavenge pump. Last ditch attempt, will be a pain in the *** to plumb, but will be able to rule out lack of drain flow as the smoking issue.
A 3/8" drain line going to a scavenging pump works great on my car for the rear turbo, and I use the pump to lift the oil and drop it into the valve cover. No problem. 3/4" gravity drain works fine for regular turbo. I think either approach would solve any possible oil drain problem on your car. I would not try a regulator, that seems dumb to me. Frankly I'd just to a 3/4 hose no restrictions dumping above oil level, and if it still smokes it's not the drain.
Ahhh okay, what kind of fitting is on the turbo itself? My treadstone fitting that attaches to the turbo is about the same size ID (.46") as your fitting on the pan.
Disregard I just found your post. Not a fun prospect to have to make that fitting...
