I was kinda sad that I let it go, because that was supposed to be my "ALLOFIT" setup, but I'm glad it went to a good home and is in a properly done turbo NB and being enjoyed ![](https://www.miataturbo.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The thing I really learned from that whole disaster is: check your clearances 500 billion times, and when you're sure they are spot on, check them again 500 billion times

Seriously, ALL-of-It in the H3AVY PIG. That might be a car that you would keep forever*.

I surfaced the VVT head on my car by hand, and it's seen 38-40 PSI boost without a failure. I took it to the machine shop a couple years ago and had it checked, they said a 1.5 thousandth feeler gauge wouldn't fit anywhere they checked it. Had it checked again about 2 months ago, still flat. So it's definitely possible to surface something flat by hand. When I built the head myself in 2013 I used a home made valve grinder to tip the valves. Those valves are still in the car today, and it holds lash no problem.
