Careful posting a picture like that here. This is a Miata forum you know. An this is a totally erotic build thread.
On the mud guards, I've found that the painted rears hold up great (mine are at ~5 years on a tracked 212K car). The fronts are lower and will scrape and bend. I ended up amputating the lowest flexible part of my fronts. Need to get them repainted.

I'm headed back down to work on the car tonight, so hopefully I'll have some real updates for y'all when I get the engine all put back together and dropped in the car. |
Btw. i have my Trisha-Project car inthe same state (front fenders off) atm. and I just finished a coat of Fluid film Fluid FilmŪ | Corrosion Preventative, Lubricant and Rust Inhibitor followed by a coat of Perma Film PERMA FILM - about us - both product come from the marine industry and are very much the holy grail in rust protection on oldtimers over here...
Just to say, as long as you have the fenders of anyway, you could protect them a bit more... Greets |
As long as this car stays in Utah, it will never rust.

Sounds almost like interior panel wax spray. Never heard of it before.
Need to research that stuff a little simply due to the fact that it sounds interesting. Not sure how it works with it not "drying". Hornet nailed it on the head though. 0% humidity and being a high elevation arid desert climate the car will never have a problem as long as it isn't driven during the winter. I like how it is able to be sprayed in nooks and crannies though! |

The advice to clearcoat the intake manifold was good advice. Looks great and contrasts the valve cover great!

I have no idea on how to test 20lbs of force for 1/2" of deflection for the perfect tightness. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392287042 Also polished the flyin miata adapter so it would match the I.M better. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392287042 |

Soaking the steering rack mid-section in rust remover to pull rust off the threads and the joint. Saying that I got the steering column put in.

Diverted my attention again. I have cleaning ADD.
Got rid of all the nasty on the rubber shift boot and cleaned all the old grease out of the shifter ball joint. Also painted the steering rack segment and cleaned all the sand/grease out of the boot. The vinyl shift boot is torn so I am going to replicate it in leather later. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 No more rust and protected. Didn't need to be perfect since this is the segment covered by the rubber boot. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 Trying to decide if I want to be lazy and give the steering wheel to a upholstery shop or try to do it myself. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 Does anyone know if you need to reinstall this if you are only running the hardtop? I don't think you do which makes me mad that I spent the time grinding the rust off it and repainting it. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 Center console arm rests are trashed on both of them. Might recover them in leather/vinyl. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 Both of these are pretty cracked and faded and scratched too. Ditto on maybe recovering them in vinyl/leather. OR just not putting it back in at all and finding a diy solution. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 |
about the IM - you're welcome ;)
about the wheel - give it to a pro, its one of those things that has to be done flawlessly or it will bother you for the rest of your life about those rails - no need with hard top, but I did reinstall mine beause they are what the carpet clips onto. if you don't mind the carpet not to be fastened down back there, leave em off. about the console - covering in leather is baller status. less baller status is taking good quality plastic/vinyl paint to it. did that in wife's tsx and was surprised with how clean it came out, but I'd expect it to wear down in about a year |

:bowrofl:Of course Adam has a solution!

I was leaning towards refinishing it with the OEM looking trim paint I used on the wipers. I'd rather repaint it in a year if needed, plus it is super easy to do as long as you sand the scratches and fill them well. I used a high build primer on the stock headlight housings and it turned out great. |
I removed my rails when I took out the softtop. Carpet stays in place well enough without the clips. You'd never even notice unless you were looking.
Think of it as a minor weight savings. |

Don't we have a jeffbucc smiley yet? |
For the belt tension, on its longest length you shouldn't be able to twist it more than 90deg.
