I've been gone working on finals and this thread makes me sad because I've gotten so little done on my caar. Jeff you are an inspiration and a kick in the ass. I'll have no way of catching up to you on attention to detail, but getting on shaving the lenses this week.

I might leave that out until you finish with the fuel tank, pump, and cover, just because of the harness bar. That could be your next project anyways.

Ever seen this picture by the way? Your muse:

It is full of stars! I think that person might be on a different level than me, it is perfect.

I'm proud of you. That's exactly the right attitude for doing quality work. Looking at how fast you go, it must have been really hard.

Props to the plater for standing behind his work. It was an honest mistake. And just think, your bolts will now be double plated. 50 years from now, they'll still be perfect!

Thanks! I was just laughing about how protected these bolts are going to be... It could make it an entire winter through NYC now!....Ok maybe not.

Go your own pace and don't try to catch up! Glad I could make this enjoyable for people. That was the intent of making my first build thread. I hate build threads with no pictures, information, and help; so I'm glad I've avoided those mistakes.

Ain't no race!....yet!:dealwithit:

This is possibly my favorite build thread. Tons of updates, pictures, attention to detail, several tangentially related posts that actually will be helpful to me in the future, etc.

I have given five stars and about 40 props since this project started.

A vendor gave me a deal I could not refuse...cheaper than refinishing the old seats

2 brand new Buddy Club Seats. I just hope they fit, they sent the larges instead of the regular and I just hope the extra width won't be an issue. The old seats still had a little space between the door bars so I'm hoping for the best.

18psi 12-19-2013 12:21 PM

that's great. if they don't you will have to do some clearancing with a huge hammer lol

rleete 12-19-2013 12:35 PM

They will almost certainly rub a little. Not enough to keep the seat from sliding, though.

But, really, how often do you adjust the seat?

Fireindc 12-19-2013 12:38 PM

I bet those will be a squeeze. Nice seats though.

shlammed 12-19-2013 01:44 PM

I have the large version as well. way skinnier than the Recaro SPG I had before... will fit fine.

the hips are skinny and the shoulders of the seat are quite a bit wider... the shoulders are the only place I could see you having an issue with the door panel, but the hips should fit fine even with door bars.

rleete 12-19-2013 02:22 PM

I have knockoffs, and they rub, but just a little. Doesn't make a bit of difference.

I have custom mounts on the car so it is one position only!;)

I have a 32" waist but really wide shoulders and lats so the extra upper body space will be nice. I think since I am doing door cards out of abs plastic it should give me a bit more room.

You really can't go wrong with foamectomied stock seats on a mostly street car. Super-comfortable, you can get pretty low, holds you well enough for occassional track days and the price is right.

What's the intended use?

vehicular 12-20-2013 03:01 PM

The Large size Buddy Clubs are monstrous. I didn't think you'd be able to fit that big bastard in there. Miata's are so narrow that you almost HAVE to buy a Miata specific seat.

I really don't like stock seats, either, btw. I'm a pretty small guy, and they still feel like a leather wrapped park bench to me.

With or without a foamectomy? Without a foamectomy (i.e., 100% stock), I would agree with the above. But a foamectomy made a huge difference for me.

I really don't need a high level of comfort since it is a weekend/track/auto-x car.

Problem is solved though, I called the vendor and they are sending free replacements of the smaller size. I'm loving these vendors being awesome!

Did a little work tonight.

Put a new plastic piece in the front blinker light housing. It had cracked and the screw wouldn't hold it tight in the housing.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387692560

New rubber boots on the brakes and new metal clips for the brake pads

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387692560

Cleaned all the grease off the rear subframe

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387692560

Spot grinded the rust off the welds

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387692560

Put new diff fluid in the rear differential

More progress...

Finished up the heat shielding on the transmission tunnel.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387736118

In conjunction with the Koolmat in the drivers foot well and the downpipe heatshield it should make things nice and comfortable.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387736118

Cleaned and refreshed the windshield frame gasket and the boot's gasket.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387736118

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1387736118

Also cleaned all the old grease and organized the Poly bushings. Sometimes there are no shortcuts for manual labor. This is one of those times. The only thing I can say that made it easier was leaving them in a crockpot full of degreaser over-night to help break the bond of the grease to the poly itself.

Both. Stock seats pinch my wallet between the bolster and the side of my butt on any ride longer than ~30 minutes.
