Of all the superpowers I wish I could have it is not having to sleep. Dolphins are too...rapey though.

G, I ain't taking your challenge unless you can show you did all the work to clean up that motor yourself!:fawk:

Besides my engine bay currently looks like this...I just pretend it isn't there currently. Ignore the vomited oil cooler oil.

I have nothing to report other than absolutely loving that front main seal tool from FM. Thread on bolt, tighten bolt till it bottoms out, pull off. Definitely worth it over trying to find that right sized scrap of wood/metal/socket that fits.

I did not so much enjoy the removal of said seal. Holy hell that thing is in there tight. Broke my hooked dental pick on the first go.

Ziggo 05-28-2015 09:40 PM

I usually drill two holes on opposite sides of the seal, then thread in a couple self tapping stainless screws a couple turns. Yank on the screws with a tool of your choosing and it will work the seal out.

Just finished this thread yesterday, awesome work. My 93 isn't getting nearly the love. I went the other way, decided I would just let it look like hell since I didn't want to bother with doing everything to perfection.

Beat me to it... I do the drill a small hole trick and small screw and it works perfect every time!

I often joke that Sharka's natural environment is being disassembled and on jack stands. I think yours shares that trait.

Funniest shit I've read all week!

Keep up the good work Jefe. The Vanagon looks great, the father is stoked.

We need a link to Jeff's vanagon build thread, wherever it is. Must be epic.

No build thread on the vanagon. We are contemplating a WRX swap or a 2.2 VW watercooled built motor swap to give it a little more balls than the gutless 2.1 that is in it. so not getting a ton done on it till we decided which route he wants to go. he is one of those OEM guys so I think he is a little scared of the WRX swap regardless or there being kits that make it plug and play.

Bryan @ Fab9 is building an extremely pretty motor

http://cdn6.bigcommerce.com/s-uqwsas...g?t=1431654404

and since his pulleys are these pretty purple powdercoated pieces and seeing as I needed the 1.8 pulleys for my ATI damper he sent me his old ones along with a new crank bolt and woodruff key.

all that is rather not news worthy but it is the shipped from name on the package that made me laugh. All my new employees weren't here for Monk's spring loaded dildo package and so they were looking at me a little disgusted this morning when I came into the bakery.

I have no idea why... Bryan you dick

I guess I'm desensitized from Monk. I don't think anyone can top him after that.

I dunno'. What Bryan did was pretty understated yet devastating when sent through Mormon-land. It's right up there!

Especially when one of my employees is a return missionary and still hasn't "deprogrammed" from 2 years overseas living and breathing religion. I loved how uncomfortable she was around me till I explained Bryan's shenanigans.

I'm really really hoping that when I call the machine shop today the head will be done. He has lengthened the completion date by a couple weeks so I'm getting a little bit irritated. :vash:

Trust me, it ain't worth the hassle trying to go there. There are easier ways to get action then the slow breaking down of someone's religious walls.

I know but after 1.5 months of no head sometimes you just need it regardless of quality!

Today...was a good day. Seeing as it is my birthday next month, I'm calling this an early birthday present...to myself.

He was surprised it was running on even 3 cylinders after tearing it apart. Said there was only about a hairs width of valve seat actually sealing the valves.

Came out clean with nice fat valve seats and lots o' spring pressure...now to pace myself putting it back together! Don't do it all in one night, don't do it all in one night.

Major thanks to Bryan @ Fab9Tuning as always for helping me get all this shit fast and dealing with my pestering questions.

My latest head has been working great. Hope this one works the same way for you.

On the rebuild from last year, that first machine shop bead blasted the head and then left some grit in the oil passages. That basically ruined the head and two camshafts. I noticed yours has been bead blasted. Might be worth pulling an oil passage plug and taking a look.
