With the insurance payout it wasn't as bad as your think but....it certainly wasn't cheap.

If I calculate what the original owner put into the car + what I did...

You and I did it right. Let someone else buy the parts, then rebuild the car with insurance money. Yes.

I imagine I am somewhere abouts where you are all together (previous owner and your money) and my car isn't nearly as nice nor as fast. Then again, I am the "first owner" so I guess I need to sell my car to someone for cheap so they can actually finish it.

Nah man don't sell it. I hate when people read my thread and see how fast I built it and get discouraged with their own project. Everyone has their own pace they can manage, or want to manage due to their life obligations. I just happen to have the trifecta of situational convenience; business owner, single, no kids. Also an OCD complex that is a little depressing...

I ran my car at this weekends autocross, unfortunately due to work I was exhausted and only made the morning heat but still got 5 runs in. Not sure how my closed loop idle settings changed from the turbo setup but idle recovery from high rpm drop is stalling the car so I need to manage that as stalling at stop lights was getting old. Easy fix just didn't have time to tune it out.

Car ran great though, no video due to not being able to find my Go pro after the move but at 20psi the car feels like it has a supercharger on it with how responsive it is. EBC is tuned so solenoid isn't active till 7 psi EWG pressure is met and it's hilariously fun. Need to retune fuel overrun too due to some hilarious snap crackle & pop on throttle lift. Trying to cement in my Dyno session this week due to scheduling conflicts.

The RC1 tires are beautiful in terms of lateral grip. I know Hornetball compares the grip level to the Rivals but to me it is night and day difference in regards to the plateau or manageability of threshold grip. Couldn't get much heat in them though and tire temps were around 110/115 max @37psi front 35psi rear. Such a fun course though. 4 slalom sections with 6 cones and then 4 fast 180° sweepers ending with several fast right left right gates on the end straight. Perfect course for higher HP cars.

Best time of the day was a turboed chopped roof RX7(mean ass car) with 67 seconds(1.1 mile course) and I managed a 75 even though I wasn't used to the new setup. Not too shabby, and I'm not disappointed with my results with only 5 runs.

Car sounds awesome!

With a 20psi boost target you should have the solenoid waiting more till like 15+ psi. I've seen a 20-30kpa threshold mentioned quite often.

I read that calculation of ebc activation should be activated at your waste gate max spring pressure, which is 7psi on my EBC(haven't futzed with its preload due to not being familiar with EWG).

aidandj 04-12-2015 10:13 PM

Haven't seen that yet. Let me know if you find a link for it. My time on the msextra forums has told me that you're threshold should he pretty small if properly tuned.

I could have misunderstood what I read in terms of setting application so don't take my word for it. I'll have to look into it again.

Try it with a 30kpa threshold. It will be epic. You might end up with a bit of overshoot at first.

Actually, Emilio is the one that did the RC1 vs. Rival grip measurements. But the dynamics are totally different. RC1s are a hoot to drive. Totally tossable. Makes you think you're Superman.

Did a Chin Motorsports event at Texas World Speedway this weekend. Talk about seat time . . . No shit 7 hours on track! Rain was in the forecast (I did 1 solid hour in a downpour . . . zen!), so I ran a set of the new RS-3s. Nice tire! Did well in the wet and dry. What was surprising was that they gripped in the first turn, which means they would be great at auto-X. TWS is a FAST track. I looked at data after the event and the speeds I saw were scary. :noes: :giggle:

Standby for vid . . . captured some good action!

I was just talking about this with a friend of mine in Vegas and both came to the conclusion that we'd both kill to get that much seat time in one weekend. That is insane! How did you manage to drive home after that? I'm sure you were wrecked!

How'd the car hold up to that much abuse. Can't imagine your tires/pads have much left to them.

My closest track is 4 hours away....that...just isn't fair Rick.:crx:

EO2K 04-13-2015 08:01 PM

Rick is a former fighter pilot and current test pilot. I'd imagine he is in better shape that you are :giggle:

Jeffbucc 04-13-2015 08:04 PM

Before the Miata I was in peak shape on my mountain bike, then I blew the cartilage in my knee and it was game over.

But yes G, I imagine he isn't breathing hard from that then.

hornetball 04-14-2015 12:06 AM

I was pretty stinkin' tired. TWS is about 3-4 hours from the house, so I still had to load up, drive home, etc. after the event. Sore this morning.

Chin has what they call "Happy Hour" at the end of the day. All groups (novices with instructors), open passing with point-bys, 1 full hour. It's awesome. The trick is to keep your concentration up. Can't imagine what driving an F1 race must be like.

Posting vid . . . .

Tomorrow is the day! Finally get the car on a Dyno down in Las Vegas. Took a while because I couldn't find someone with Megasquirt experience. Luckily one of the Miata guys in Vegas I autocross with hooked me up with someone who tunes them, and has been doing it for a while with Miata experience as well.

Still can't find my Go pro but some company on amazon was either going out of business or just getting rid of stock and pick up a Gopro 4 silver(touchscreen) and 2 extra batteries for less than retail.

Meaning no more audio only videos! Hopefully get some good pull recordings on the Dyno if we don't run into any issues(please god no).

The new ones are so tiny. Going from the original to the 4 is a huge difference.
