I just saw your last update with DAT turbo (late to the party, i know). But GOD DAMN. I'm very excited to see what you can do with a BP and that turbo.

You are doing gods work.

Thank you! Nice thing is sub-4000rpm drivability is not an issue here, but would be interesting to see what the large turbo will be like on the BP (albeit it is twin-scroll).

It'll be great up until the point it takes more boost pressure to make the same power as other cars make due to the crappy heads.

Still can't wait, it feels like Faeflora's shit except you actually deliver.

bcrx7 12-09-2013 08:55 PM

Well one way to find out! There is a lot of hear and say, but haven't seen guys with big turbos trying to make power... we all know about Fae...

We will know in a few months!

Finished the exhaust! The V-Bands for the intake piping are on the way. UPS shows it should be here tomorrow!

Before anyone says that CAS location will end world and cause a black hole: it is about an inch away and it will be shielded. In addition the CAS is only being used for the CAM sensor, there is a crank sensor as well.

That CAS is going to cook pretty quickly with an exhaust pipe next to it. Its already problematic on the miatas where its at the back of the engine.

bcrx7 12-16-2013 02:31 PM

Once it does, it will move to the front... thanks for pointing out what I wrote about (did you even read it?)

haha, I totally didn't read it. I would almost say it wasn't there, but of course I was at work and in a hurry!

anyways, you get the idea.

bcrx7 12-16-2013 07:41 PM

I might even put one on the front some how. What does the 01+ cam sensor pickup looks like on the intake cam?

18psi 12-16-2013 07:44 PM

its at the top so it would work

bcrx7 12-16-2013 07:45 PM

It reads off of the cam gear in the front, right? Is there a teeth on the cam gear? I don't think my FM gear have a teeth on them, I can add something to one of the bolts I guess!

18psi 12-16-2013 07:58 PM

99-00 has the sensor in front, 01+ has sensor in the back on top of the intake cam

bcrx7 12-16-2013 08:01 PM

Oh right, I see! You still have your valve cover off? You mind snapping a picture of the cam where the sensor goes in the valve cover, wondering what the cam looks like there.

I see... I think what I will do is run it as is with a heat shield with gold reflective material. If the syncing goes to crap, I will either add something to the end of the cam or figure something out on the cam gear.

18psi 12-16-2013 08:10 PM

Lets do some betting on how long it lasts there. I say 1 track event lol

bcrx7 12-16-2013 08:12 PM

You'd be surprised how good the gold heat shield works though! Plus with the size of that turbo, I am not sure how much exhaust will actually make it out of the turbo lol

Seefo 12-17-2013 01:45 AM

all joking aside, you probably don't need to test this. Its going to fail and quick. gold reflective tape or not (google indicates 40-60% reflection on common gold tape, plus many of the gold tapes have lower heat rating for the adhesive...).

I don't see why you are running that exhaust pipe up there. In the first picture, it looks like there is plenty of space to run it down (ie beside the engine instead of behind).

Otherwise (not a bad idea anyway), you should just get a 99 head ;). Engine re-rebuild! lol

sixshooter 12-17-2013 08:47 AM

My dipstick handle melted. Twice. With shielding and reflective tape. My engine is apart right now to get all of the teeny plastic bits out of my oil pump and passages. I'm sure for street cars it is no big deal but when everything is glowing red for 30+ minutes at a time everything gets heat soaked. I wouldn't wish it on you. I'm planning on a plug or cap for the tube when on the track and keep the dipstick in the support vehicle for checking oil level in the paddock. It isn't something I need to check while driving.

bcrx7 12-17-2013 09:42 AM

As far as the space, that is 4" exhaust and even though it looks like there is room, that tunnel gets narrow awefully quick and the trans mount is right there. The RX-7 has the exhaust on the opposite side of the chassis.

The head is a 99 head, just not the valve cover and the can gears. I will make something for the front can gear them.

And I will get rid of the plastic dipstick! Good idea! Thanks guys!
