I am leaving it. Spent a good part of the day gathering up the parts online to finish the water pump project.

I also did a practice run installing the header. Its a pain in the ***, even with the transmission out of the car. With the tubular sub-frame and clearanced frame rail, I still had to remove the steering column. If I have to pull the steering column every time to remove the transmission, that is going to suck real bad.

How does your Boig header compare to this one?

My header is in 4 pieces. Front 2 pipes, 3rd pipe, 4th pipe, and collector.

i mean what you have there is really quite the piece.

Speaking of piece, I think this is what delayed the whole project. Never mind acquiring property, getting married, and having a baby.

Trying to get the grime off that has accumulated over the past year before tackling it. At least there are way fewer wires than before.

That prototype header was designed/built at Mazda's request for the spec Motorola Cup header for the 99s by a Bosal tech. I know they put a lot of hours and dyno time in on it, but it was killed before production after an NB Miata smoked the second place HART Civic by three laps at Road Atlanta. I'd never seen a Boig header before and was wondering what it was like.

Yes- working on a car project around "life" can certainly drag things out. It took me five years to get mine back on the ground and driving.

For real? I thought you were teasing. The proportions looked all wrong like it wouldn't fit a Miata. Have you used it?

The Boig header certainly looks right under the hood. It needs a real healthy motor to get it to work. I think it will pay off when I start running a generous shot of laughing gas.

Yes- ran it with the spec cams, ecu, stock 99 engine and straight 2-1/4" exhaust for 150+rwhp. That was in 99-00 so I don't remember what it took to get it in there, but it did fit.

Sixshooter came and gave me a hand today, and we refined the procedure for installing the header. Just a little lift on one side of the motor, and I was able to get it in without pulling the steering shaft. Pulled it back out and tried it again, this time with the transmission in place. It goes in without any trouble. That is a major relief.

An old friend that started hot rodding about the time I did has been an unstoppable force in the stick shift true street class three years in a row he entered at the NMRA Spring Break Shootout in Bradenton. The first 2 years were naturally aspirated, but the competition was coming on strong. This year he has a turbo setup. His 3 run average was in the 8.90s. He had just a few months to prepare from the day the car was assembled.

He was always the most talented in our group. I got the inspiration to do the engine bay smoothing in my car from him.

Don't forget to put that bolt back in the steering column.

Transmission is in. Glamour Shots from the weekend.

Would anyone happen to have this front bumper side marker connector?

Apparently, there are already Miatas that have gone in the 11s on the (BP) motor according to Rebello Racing. I was hoping to be the first to do it, but that is not to be.

Some of the car has already been prepped to meet this goal. The fuel system is already adequete to go in the nines easily, and most of the weight reduction has been completed. All of the wiring is completed to run the nitrous. My ignition can handle it. I did some pretty extensive work on the cylinder head, and all I need to do now is camshaft development.

I am going to pull my motor, and put in rods, oil pump, balancer, and a few other items. I do not think that I will get the job done with this motor even with some of the improvements, but we will see. I still plan to use this motor as the development motor, and then build my spare motor from scratch once I feel the chassis, fuel system, saftey items, cylinder head and induction are up to speed. Oh yah. I plan to do a transmission of some sort, but I have not nailed it yet. I am leaning towards the Quaife 5 speed. I intend to run the numbers with the IRS suspension.

As of right now, I decided to park the car. I am getting some parts together, so the car will not be in pieces for too long. Do not expect for this to happen over night. At least a year.
Seventh year anniversary of the statement above coming in a week and a half. We are still looking forward to it.

Meanwhile, production cars continue to get faster.

Working on it at an improved pace. Bought a significant amount of parts today. I'm not updating until everything I purchased is on the car.
