Hello, I'm Alwin, I'm 21 years old, i live in Sneek in the Netherlands. I'm working as a chemical analyst at the moment but i plan to go back to school next year. This wil also mean less money for the car for the next 4 years. I have several friends that own miata's and my brother got an ep3 civic type R. My dad is a mechanic so i have an garage with lift next to my houseThere are a lot of nice curvy roads close to my house. All of this allows for some pretty fun times ******* around with cars.
I guess i start with some history on the car. I bought it like this:
It's a 10th anniversary edition so a 1999. It had 164.000 km (100k miles) on it. These cars came standard with the 1.8l, (in europe most nb's are 1.6l) torsen 3.9 diff, 6 speed, chrome wheels and the blue paint/interior. Furthermore this particular car is equipped with abs, p/s and no a/c.
This is my first car so before modifying something i first had to learn how to drive it properly
In the first year i mostly just drove it and did some basic maintenance.
Over the last year i did the nbfl headlights and front bumper, added Coilovers, wheels, tires, exhaust, aluminum radiator, frame rails & some Tupperware so basically the miata starter package
After that i proceeded to basically destroy the car. Long story short i drove it into a guardrail, and spun a rod bearing(not at the same time). The car was not bent in the accident, an was fixed with a new fender, door and rear quartel panel. I then put a new (used) engine in, this engine started knocking on the first startup. (**** the guy that sold it to me) so i decided to rebuild the old engine.
So now the car was a car again. Since then I've added swaybars r888r tires and got it aligned. Couldn't get more front camber then - 2° so I've bought extended lower ball joints. These still have to be installed.
This is how the car sits as of right now.
Stuff that i ordered but has not yet been delivered or has been laying around not yet installed on my car:
-Cybul x rollbar & doorbars and dual durometer padding.
-extended lower ball joints
-new front lip & sideskirts
-10/6k springs for my coilovers (currently 8/5k)
- motamec brake proportioning valve
I also have a little list of things im planning to buy for the turbo system. I still haven't ordered most things of this list and it will still take a while for me to do so. I first want the car completely dialed in before i add turbo stuff, so if you have any suggestions for changes to this list i would like to hear them.
-Garrett gt2560r -MSlabs MS3 mini pnp ecu & aem xseries wideband -Kraken manifold & downpipe with iconel studs -Bosch ev14 640cc injectors -Bofiracing clutch kit -Bofiracing oil & water line solution -Bofiracing intercooler kit with blow off valve -MAC electronic boost controller
Small things: -NGK BKR7E spark plugs -skidnation coolant reroute -skidnation egr block off plate -moroso catch can
-323 gtx pcv valve
-NTC2 motorsport spec air temperature sensor
So since this is my first post i think i'm gonna add a complete list off all of the parts currently on the car to this post and keep it updated by editing this post later.
Yesterday i got the fresh alignment bolts and the extended lower ball joints in. I think the old ones were due for replacement...
And today i got the car aligned, i drove it very slowly to the alignment shop because as expected the alignment was all over the place.
I ended up with these numbers:
............................... left - right
Front Camber:.. - 2.57° - 2.56°
Front toe:..... .... - 0.01° - 0.01°
Front caster:.... +5.06° +5.01°
Rear camber:... - 2.11° - 2.08°
Rear toe:.......... +0.08° +0.06°
The car drives alot better now than it did before. I currently have both swaybars on full soft but i might play with that some more.
Tire pressure in the r888rs is 27psi cold, I'm gonna get a pyrometer to help fine-tune the car more.
The rollbar weights about 45 lbs. I still have to put the doorbars in.
I have removed quite some weight from the car, i wonder how much it weighs now. There is a scale for trucks etc near my city, i don't know how accurate it is but i'm going to weigh my car there soon.
So turbo stuff is starting now. I bought a new ms3 mini ecu from someone who deciced not to use it. That same day i ordered an aem wideband, iat sensor and 3mm vacuum hose for the MAP.
And then a day later i found a good deal on a used turbo kit.
It is a kit from Revent with a gt2554r. It contains:
Turbo/manifold and downpipe/gaskets
intercooler+piping
oil and water lines
rx8 injectors (might upgrade to ev14)
So i only need to add a clutch and a blow off valve
ms3 mini ecu installing the wideband rx8 vs stock injectors Installing the injectors
Now i will tune the car on the rx8 injectors. After everything is running smoothly i'm planning to take the engine out. With the engine out i need to fix an oil leak, do the clutch and get the oil return done.
I'm planning to use these tables, and then autotune the VE table. I hope this will be safe enough untill i get the car proffesionally tuned. that might take a while because of the corona virus tho.
The AFR table looks like a good start, for the ignition you can add some ignition timing in the cruise area to get some better mileage later on. I know at least one dutch tuner that is still active in the Rotterdam environment, if you need his contact details let me know.

Thanks i think i will leave the timing alone for now, i'l pm you if i need the tuner's details.

I would make both both stop at 220 kPa and AFR at 220 would be 11.6 and scale evenly back to the 12.5 at 100.

I made the 200 kpa row the 220 kpa row. I think i will keep it at 11 because 220kpa is above my boost target.
So everything is ready to go back in the car but i'm waiting on my iconel studs & locking nuts to arrive. The kit came with normal studs but i have read to many stories about the nuts coming off. In the meantime i played around with heat reflective tape, maybe it will help protect things.
Heat reflective tape
Painted the turbo heatshield with heat resistant paint.
