AEM EMS4 Can't get my car started!!!!
Hello I got a 91 miata who I've just finished boosting, got all the wiring in for the ems. I've tried to crank to start but nothing then I was told I must sync timing with ecu first so I was told to unplug injectors/coils/pump ext. so it wouldn't start now I'm stuck on the syncing part all I read or see videos of is people syncing timing, BUT while their car is on! That's my problem my car won't start theirs spark, fuel phasing I've syncd my injectors, everything and anything I could think of is or has been set up in the sensor wizards, but how exactly do you sync timing when car wont start? Please shine some light, these past days have been sooo hectic. /:

I just went through the whole install myself. You first need to make sure that when you crank it with no fuel and spark, Stat sync'ed is ON in the advanced pickups tab. That means it's picking up your crank and cam.
Then you need to sync the timing with the ECU. Connect the ignition but not the fuel. Open up the ignition sync wizard and lock the timing at 10 BTDC. You need a friend to crank, or get one of those remote starters like I did and crank it with a timing light. Then you need to get it to 10BTDC on the crankshaft marks (I dont know how the timing marks look on the 1.6). Press retard or advance until the marks all line up good.
You also need to make sure your ignition and injector phasing are set up properly.

So I've got my timing syncd and locked at 10 finally, I simply switched my cam and crank cables at ecu harness went retard on timing acouple times and that worked dont know why I didn't try that sooner. But anyways once timing was syncd I went through all the steps again setting up coils with cylinders ext. but when it came to cranking it nothing! I checked for spark at plugs and theirs spark! I checked that the fuel pump is pumping fuel and it's a walbro so trust me it's pumping! Now when I removed spark plugs to see if my injectors were spraying only cylinder 4 spark plug looked like it was being sparked (burnt at tip of spark plug) maybe my injectors are bad or just setup wrong? Any help guys?!!?!

So I changed some settings and plugged these in as is, car started. Was on for a good 4 seconds then turned off/: any idea why or what I may have done wrong? Fuel was adjusted alittle because my wideband was reading lean, at first the car actually didnt wanna start then I played with the fuel like you said had acouple backfires then finally started, but again only for about 4-5seconds. Then shut off? Do I need to play with the MAF settings? It kinda felt like when you don't have your stock intake box connected (car turns on, then turns off after acouple seconds)
