genII 6UL - Taking orders now
#22
So there isn't a "concern" that I'm aware of. The low pressure cast T6 heat treated gen II 6UL is even stronger, with better fatigue life and failure mode behavior than the gravity cast T4 heat treated gen I 6UL it replaces. I have no plans for a Spec Miata version currently.

I'm not interested in a Spec Miata version, but since a few of the guys were running them this weekend I was curious as to how they compared durability wise to the Team Dynamics wheels I and many of the other racers have run.
I am building a EP Type car that I was planning on running the 15x9 6ULII wheels. Where are the wheels manufactured?

The general answer is that there are several thousand Gen I 6UL's running around and the consensus seems to be that they are stout, particularly considering they're weight and relatively low cost.

I was comparing the 6UL Gen I 15x7 to the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 15x7 Wheel. Weights are the same, and I was simply asking due to the concerns that the racers expressed. Several of them stated that track ruts and riding curbs seemed to bend the 6ULs more frequently than the TD wheels.
Please don't take this wrong, i'm simply stating to you what I was told by some of your customers so that I can make a decision about purchasing some of your wheels for a different application. I am glad there is someone making wheels in sizes and offsets the miata community actually wants!

The 1.3's are a bit lighter, averaging about 13.6 lbs for the samples I weighed. Haven't gotten any of the new Chinese made 1.3's but Goodwin tells me they're about the same as the UK made ones.

15x8 & 15x9 Weights
Just wanted to update whoever might be interested. Final production weights on the Gen II 6UL due in about a month are as follows:
12.8 lbs Discontinued gen I 6UL 15x8
12.3 lbs Gen II 6UL 15x8
13.2 lbs Discontinued gen I 6UL 15x9
12.55 lbs Gen II 6UL 15x9
The new wheels are stiffer, stronger with a better failure mode (they bend further before breaking in destructive testing).
Discontinued 6UL was gravity cast, T4 heat treated
Gen II 6UL is low pressure cast, T6 heat treated
The Gen II was completely re-engineered from scratch to take advantage of the new manufacturing process. Very difficult to to tell them apart other than the new smaller cap and "6UL" now embossed on near the lip.

Emilio, are these going to be limited production and if so how many do you expect to produce (Matte Bronze)?? Will there be any other runs later in the year? Just asking because I'd like to pick up a set, but am strapped at the moment....but if I absolutely had to, I could suck it up and gettem now but I prefer not to... Let me know when you get a chance!

New info, website gets the update. Significant news, those that have orders in get the email. Always check the website
Currently, wheels are in production. MX5Centre (Australia), will have wheels before the end of May. US shipment arrive here first week of June-ish.
From here on out, I won't respond to questions about ETA. You all have to go to the website just like everyone else.
